Buffing the Smoker! Feedback needed!
You'll find some subtle changes in place on the "VS Normal" server tonight! Please post here with feedback!
Current changes:
Increased tongue-victim acceleration: By having a faster initial yank, there's a better chance of pulling someone out of a melee spamfest.
Slightly increased tongue-victim accuracy penalty: The victim won't be able to shoot his way out of the drag quite so easily.
Increased tongue fly speed: increasing this gives less of a delay between click and pull... it lets smokers better grab that last guy before he goes around the corner.
Enabled voluntary tongue release: this lets you release the victim by turning. So, for example, you can pull someone off the ledge and then let go of him. No more "till death do us part".
Slightly decreased tongue-recharge delay: Get a few more shots in at the survivors

Awesome!
What would be nice is a list of changes we could possible make to the smoker, to see what we can tweak. Upping the slash damage would be nice, but it would make people just slash slash slash...

Excited for this enhancement....I almost dread every time I spawn that I get the smoker unless its level 4 of No Mercy where u can drag people off the ledge.

Seems our friends at Valve really do understand our complaints. All the same, thank you for doing what they did on your lonesome!

LOL... well, you knew it needed to be done. It just happens that THEY knew that also. And they figured, let's fix it.. and mess with whisky at the same time.

Re: Buffing the Smoker! Feedback needed!
I was just about to say the same thing.
Let's play with valves new smoker and see if it still is underpowered. Glad that they now have to chase the survivor across the map until they can melee the tongue off or kill the smoker.
Atleast, that's how I understood the update.

The way it works from what I have seen is until the survivor looses control over his actions, the tongue cannot be meleed off. Also his damage begins the second his tongue can be meleed off the survivor. All the patch did basically was give the smokers tongue 5-10 feet of immunity from melee and started the damage cycle once the survivor looses control of his own actions.
It's far from perfect, and he is still totally useless all by his lonesome, but he can at least dish out some damage now.

Re: Buffing the Smoker! Feedback needed!
Ok so I was doing fine with the smoker before the patch. It wasnt hard to deal damage, in fact, damage was dealt every spawn and delayed the other team a lot even in long hallways (see Hospital).
Post patch, smoker got buffed (except that the lock on aiming is less sensitive). Now the smoker deals damage even for average players, making the smoker much more viable asset to the infected team in public play.
Add on these benefits Whiskey put up and now the smoker can bring a team to its knees much like multiple hunter attack combos. I doubt we'll see a consensus until after everyone gets more familiar with the smoker's new strengths.
