Infected idea
Yes, I know L4D doesn't really need new types of special infected but it is fun to come up with ideas for them

Anyway, I just thought of one idea and thought I would throw it out there:
How about a special infected that stops survivors in their tracks? Like by spitting slime on their feet. The unfortunate survivor would then be stuck for a couple of seconds or could be meleed free. Damn, I just realized that works a lot like a hunter (except the stuck survivor can defend himself).
Ok so how about this: like a boomer it can slime many survivors at once - or maybe slime the ground to make a trap?
My first idea for it was that its spitting attack would make the target fly to the nearest wall and get stuck to it, kind of like a reverse smoker.
Maybe when it died it would spray a liquid from its back that made the ground slippery, making survivors fall on their backs.
Looks? Meh, maybe it has a bunch of tumors on its back and emits the slime from its hand.
Name? Slimer, probably the only fitting name.
Damn, it's hard to come up with mechanisms that aren't very similar to ones already in the game
I don't know, maybe it's a pretty pointless idea, I just felt like I had to get it out of my head."Video games develop hand-eye coordination, and make kids into better human beings!" - Prof. Membrane

Re: Infected idea
I liked it. A spiderman zombie
lol. I thought of a small really fast one that when it hits someone, they walk slow, like if your down in health. Maybe even like 1 health bleeding out slug slow. It could look like the flood from halo maybe. But like a small super fast one. Maybe even a dog i guess lol. Or one that can kinda shoot, but when it shoots like maybe 5 times, it dies. Like shooting does 25 damage to it or soemthing. Something either fast, or sniperish i guess. Like lob your shots though.

Re: Infected idea
An infected, body can chemically alter the normal infected virus into a super-potent, super-infectious, but time-restricted form of the infection that also causes a panic attack in the victim; it would be so strong that it would bypass the survivors' immunity to the regular infection, but the immunity would cause it to wear off somewhat quickly.
When bitten, the survivor is taken over by Normal Infected-like AI and runs in a random direction. Biter would be slow but have the ability to perform one hunter jump every so often, to allow it to be useful.
This would cause the bitten survivor to scurry off, possibly leading to death once the infection wears off if the team does not catch up with the victim.
Wouldn't be frequent, and would be a one-use type of zombie, unless you were lucky (Hunterish HP, Boomerish walk, chance of having the superjump if you perform a walking ambush though?) and would cause quite a bit of confusion. To stop the victim from being horribly mangled, they would take no damage from zombies during the temporary 'infection'.

Re: Infected idea
A zombie that looks just like a normal infected, but does something when up close...
do something...
explode in flame?
obscuring smoke? (like smoker is supposed to kind of do)
I don't know what.. but I like the idea that it looks like normal.
Hmmm maybe it's sort of tank-like - LOTS of health, but doesn't do much damage - so more in the way than anything?
Or maybe if it hits a survivor, the survivor is knocked off balance - the same way a hunter, smoker or boomer is when they are melleed by a survivor."Sympathy means a lot, coming from Kulmar. I didn't think it was possible.

Re: Infected idea
These are some great ideas. Maybe the slime attack could be right-click for the Boomer or something.

Re: Infected idea
Infected animals would be cool and scary (something the existing infected are lacking IMO). I know infected dogs have already been mentioned, but how about infected cattle (for Blood Harvest) or even infected birds that swoop down and claw at survivors?

Re: Infected idea
I think expanding the current SI's would be a better way to go. Give them a bit more depth. Like the sticky slime Idea would be great as an alt weapon for the boomer.
Though I would welcome another "special" or even some alt skins for the current specials.Battlefield Samurai 'Banzaaaiii!!!

Re: Infected idea
Yeah, alternative skins would add some variety to the game. A friend of mine has been whining for more human characters since he tried the demo :P

Re: Infected idea
I would like the random survivor in the closet much rather than finding the person in your party. It wouldn't leave that much of a "huh" factor when the character who died shows up in the closet.

Re: Infected idea
I think they should give all the zombies a second attack. Other than claw. So maybe boomer should have the sticky slime. And smoker should have acid that can burn down walls maybe. And the hunter can have like a howl that does something. And the tank could have the area of attack thinggy attack.

Re: Infected idea
question: how much more stuff are we talking to just add one more character?
models wouldn't be THAT big a deal.
But a good part of the game is the sound bites.
They'd have to come up with the billion (exagerating, I know) sound bites for the new character, then new sound bites for all the existing characters to interact with the new one. Everything from "oh no, not <name>" when you see his dead body all the way up to the interactions that already exist - like when francis lists all the stuff he doesn't like and old guy asks if there is anything he DOES like.. etc... And to do that, they'd have to bring in the old voice actors again (at a cost of ???).
I was just wondering how much work that would be. and would that be something they could continue to do for free?"Sympathy means a lot, coming from Kulmar. I didn't think it was possible.
