Re: Looking to challenge Valve
For this game you don't join directly on a server and wait till it fills up.
You start a lobby, invite people in the game from your friends list and then start the game.

Re: Looking to challenge Valve
Okay, my tendency on nights that I play this game is to camp our servers until I see them start to fill up. Unfortunately, I never make it in time what should I do to fix that? I love playing with TG'ers but I'm almost always stuck pubbing it up. Do people tend to get on TG's vent and move in to the game from there or should I just add everyone I possibly can to my friends list?

What I do is that I create lobby and start inviting people to the game from my friends list, everyone who joins do the same untill we're full.
So yeah, start by joining the TG L4D group and inviting people you know from there to be your friends. You can sen an invite to me aswell.

Re: Looking to challenge Valve
Okay, that seems somewhat extreme but if that is what it takes to play with you guys I'm up for it.

Re: Looking to challenge Valve
definitely extreme to have friends at TG and then play with them let alone have around 8 of them

Re: Looking to challenge Valve
What steam needs is a little app for you to tag games you want to play. Then you can sort all your friends or mass invite them to play for that particular game. It would be sweet. It will make l4d a snap to setup! Steam is the new TWITTER!

Re: Looking to challenge Valve
I sat down and tried to add people in here the other night while in-game, but I ran in to some difficulties. First, I'm not sure how to add people on here in the forums in Steam, I tried using steam account numbers in the add friend tab, but that doesn't work. Even when I try to go through our L4D group I am almost never 100% sure that I am looking at the same person on steam that I see on the forums due to the difference in handles between the two. One final note, I do not see Kebab as an admin for TG's L4D on steam, but he obviously is here, that either needs to be fixed or Kebab's steam name is different (the latter being the most likely).

Re: Looking to challenge Valve
Yes, Im not administrator in the steam community page, however I indeed am there with the same handle. | TG-E1st| Kebab-Kastike is my steam nick.
By the way, this is not the thread to discuss about how lobby system works, friends list or TG L4D steam community.

Re: Looking to challenge Valve
I will contact mr Chet Faliszek when they release the new content and SDK to ask the Left4Dead team what time and date would suit them and then then ask the TG team members what if it suits their schedule.
Im thinking we should do run with them with vanilla server that has unscrabler on, maybe revert the no-meds server to vanilla+unscrambler. I know it's a bit easy but that would mean we could enjoy Valves company bit longer and both teams had high chance to finish the level and it would be close game.
Also, I'll let the L4D team pick the versus map. Im pretty sure they'll pick one of the new ones they are going to release.

I don't know how that could be pulled off, but I think it would require a lot of training from us.

Re: Looking to challenge Valve
Ok, sent Chet an e-mail.

Now that you gentlemen have the DLC out of the way we may further discuss about the challenge.
The Valve team may choose the map for the versus match.
As for the time, weekends would be the best time for us since you guys are in the US and currently half of our team is in EU. We EU folks can take the night shift, but if it's something like 3am for us, it's going to be tough. To keep the time humane the match shouldn't be no later than 7pm EST. All the weekend dates should work for us, if someone can't make it, there's always someone in 200,000 member community who can take the spot.
For the server, we can play on TacticalGamer server. However, if you guys wish for SourceTV support or something like that, we're fine with playing on one of your servers, as long as it's not West Coast server (horrible pings for us Euros).
I'm sure it's obvious statement but for the match no exploiting, cheating or glitching.
If you guys have anything to add to that just say.
So in short:
- Valve team may choose the map.
- You guys may choose the date, but it should be during weekend (preferably not Sunday) and no later than 7pm EST
- TacticalGamer or Valve server for the match?
Cheers,
Mikko "Kebab-Kastike" Liimatainen
