Best ambush spot in the game?

One thing I really LOVE about the game is planning the attacks on the survivors. What do you think is the best 4-man ambush spot is in the game? Define "best" however you want. Also - not everyone has every level memorized by name, so give a fair description of the spot your talking about.

I like the NM04 at the very start. This is the level where you start out two-floors below the elevator. As survivors, you exit the saferoom, take a right, go past a couple exam rooms, a T-intersection, and then through double doors and right, up the stairs. It's challenging for the infected, but I love all the possibilities.

Re: Best ambush spot in the game?

No Mercy 3 (Sewers), around the crescendo event with the lift.

They start in a diner, venture into the open, often enter a garage and the upstairs apartment, take the lift to set off the crescendo, run over the roof, enter the upstairs room, drop down, and make their way into the warehouse downstairs.

There's a gazillion opportunities for good traps there, between the time they enter the diner and until they go into the warehouse. You can get 25 point pounces, great booms, smoker pulling people down... all of them over and over again.

And sometimes you can get someone to shoot the gas station and take out their whole team

I like hiding in the trees in Dead Toll and Blood Harvest. (Sorry, very general locations)

Re: Best ambush spot in the game?

The first segment of Bloodharvest, when the survivors leave the safe area and venture up the smal hill. It is ver early on in the game but I have seen it happen so many times that the survivors die just outside the saferoom.

All it takes is either the smoker to drag some into the bushy area, then have a boomer splash on all of them. and pounch away.
Or have a boomer splash them all. pounch with 2 hunters, and a smoker drags one off. By the time the last survivors vision returns his mates will be dead

Re: Best ambush spot in the game?

I like the area on NM3 with the lift as well, it's great to pull survivors off the roof back into the car park. I like the area around the sewer exit as well, as the survivors have to split up, making it a tense zone as a survivor and providing infected with a wealth of possibilities (it's great fun to be a boomer and drop down the ladder as they start climbing).

Re: Best ambush spot in the game?

I forgot about another place on BH that's awesome - forget which level it is - 4 i think? Anyway, it's the one where you leave the saferoom and can go either left or right around dark, concrete hallways. Around the far side of the 'block' is a dark room w/ generators and usually some goodies. It's a great spot to ambush with all the darkness... and sometimes you'll get a megahorde spawning inside the dark generator room which is hillarious

Re: Best ambush spot in the game?

I name just one spot, when coming up from the sewers in the No Mercy (was it 3rd map...?) and going down. We once had really trouble taking these guys down at the end, and when they climbed that final stairway up to the ground we got 3 survivors stacked together up there, while 3rd one was boomed downstairs and completely helpless anyway.

It is just horrible spot, but so perfect for ambush as longer the survivors wait down, longer you have time to get all special infected up there, and there are so many cars and other covery spots that it ain't easy to survive against only normal infected zombies either!

Re: Best ambush spot in the game?

Yeah, I think NM 3 has the greatest wealth of opportunities.

If you are a hunter there are several 25 point pounces throughout the level most notably near the beginning.

In the weapon spawn point above the gas station is also a great spot to smoker pull someone out the side window and force them all the way back through the diner again. A smoker pull off the side of the building during the lift event is usually a game over for the other team if they split apart as a double hunter pounce on those going for the door would be devastating. Equally fun is the smoker pull ABOVE the lift event, if you get your angle right you snag someone as they go into the window and pull them back off the ledge. Also great fun to grab the last person dropping down into the sewers.

But the one requiring the most coordination and I believe the most devastating (if done right) is the sewer exit. There is no single infected here that gets the limelight in this spot. There are many ways to set this up, but my favorite is for smoker to grab the first out and boomer rushes in and gets everyone else trying to come up. Then hunters pounce anyone coming for your smoke victim. I actually got called an exploiter yesterday while employing this tactic because "that is exploiting the map using the boomer's horde to block the exit" LOL.

Re: Best ambush spot in the game?

Nm3: When the survivors exit the sewers.Hunters can get on the roof of the buildings and execute a 80 point pounce if done correctly. Hit the survivors when they are at the top of the ladder, you can get 20 points for the pounce, then add in 50-60 in fall damage until they hit the ground in the sewer. If the pounce alone incaps a survivor (if they could take less then 20 damage to being incapped), the fall damage does 50-60x3 damage, or can almost kill the survivors.

Dead Air 2: when you just start out, you have to climb on the fire escape ladders. A very effective chokepoint.

Blood Harvest 5: The cornfield obscures much of your vision.

Agree totally.. If you get a Boomer to get the job done while they are in the middle of the field.. Disaster..

No Mercy...level #2 at the start..if all goes well.. the game can end there.. Boomer/Smoker combo when they leave the safe room and drop down to the stairs..

Agree.. this is a game changer...along with NM Level #4, when they climb out of the elevator shaft... Both are similar, and require coordination, timing and a bit of luck..but if done correctly...will end the game...

This thread makes me think there aren't enough sweet spots on most maps to challenge the survivors! SDK where are you!?

The more and more I have gotten into making my map, the more and more I see what a good ambush spot really is. The biggest obsticles for infected to set good ambushes are twofold.

1) They aren't very "quiet", so the survivors know when something is coming.
2) The fact that weapons penetrate any wall/celing/floor less then 16 units thick and do full damage to any infected on the other side.

When you look at those 2 problems together, you see what makes a good ambush place good.

1) Infected having ambush positions where they cant fall victim to a survivor pre-firing a corner/wall because they have to...
2) Fight at places they can give their basic position away and still live. Have something the survivors cant shoot through, or a roof to duck behind if they plan on being effective.

I dont think Valve has put a lot of thought into survivors pre-firing corners/walls in combination with the infected's propensity to give away their position in the official campaign maps. Or conversely they put a lot of thought into it and wanted an "easier" game on the survivors to attract customers and they slowly toughen it up after the game was released. Believe me, my partner and I are taking this stuff into account. We are making sure we have more walls survivors cant shoot through, thus making more good ambush points for infected to attack from.
