Did the update / DLC kill L4D?

Is it me or did the "survival" pack absolutely kill Left 4 Dead?

The "new" maps are barely warmed over from their easter-egg / "not tested for Versus" versions.

I cannot even read the text with the splash screen lighthouse shining so brightly.

I wish they never released their DLC.

Oh well, onto the next game (whatever that is).

    lol, NO!

Have you tried it since the updates? There have been 3 (at least) since the survival pack was released.

I'm still loving it... I haven't seen you around much - are you pubbing it or playing w/ TGers?

Yeah you must be playing a different game, the DLC is the only reason I've hopped back onto L4D.

No, survival is the smartest thing they could have done.

Re: Did the update / DLC kill L4D?

Indeed, it did the exact opposite.

The COOP maps that were converted to versus weren't easter egg, just as playing Half-Life2 maps or TF2 maps on L4D weren't easter eggs.

Main problem for the survival of L4D is that capaigns take long time to play through and it's hard work to make one. Adding survival mode gives more content and faster rounds for the game. When the official SDK is released, mappers who didn't manually set their hammer for L4D start making campaigns and survival maps.
That's what happened to CSS for example. They released few new maps till there was enough custom maps so that the gamers could keep the game alive.

That is what is happening to TeamFortress 2. They released the SDK and have now been releasing mostly community made maps along with their class updates that add more weapons to the game in form of achievement unlocks.

I am warming up to it a bit. I have noticed that very few lobby leaders now pick "Death Toll" which was the prompt for the original post.

I am lukewarm to survival. Mostly because I suck at it.

Well, not playing the survival maps doesn't make you any better at it
Just explore all the diffrent positions in the map. What I've seen working with many maps is to change position at around 5min marker (after the tank is dead there should be quick 10s quiet moment), after that there's another one at around 10minutes.
