Well this'll be interesting if it's real. I wonder how daytime campaigns would do for Left 4 Dead.

If its true, laaame. The first one is already starved for content even after the Survival update and now we get a sequel...this isn't Valve, this is more like Activision rolling out sequels every year.

Update: IGN has a preview with more details. Highlights below:

* Survivors: Nick, Ellis, Rochelle, and the Coach
* Missions played in full daylight
* Witch behaves differently during the day – wanders around like an old homeless woman
* New weapons: silenced SMG (silencer has no gameplay implications)
* One new gameplay mode not revealed at this time
* Stronger narrative thread to connect the campaigns
* Savannah campaign where “the zombie infection hasn’t hit yet”
* Instead of a Last Stand-type finale, survivors may have to fight through a hazard-filled highway
* Director can change the layout of the map
* New boss infected: The Charger

While it looks cool, there's no way I'm shelling out another $50 for it. The first one was ok. I absolutely HATE Vs. so that's probably why I moved on. Why not just patch this stuff into L4D. I'm not paying for content that should have been in the first bare-bones game.

Exactly if we could at least get the SDK then there would be a reason to keep playing L4D...

I honestly didn't expect this from Valve and am slightly deterred from buying this one. I got Left 4 Dead because I knew it would be a quality game and I thought I would play it for a while. While I burned out on it, I thought Valve would at least keep it alive with updates like we have been so accustomed to in TF2 (TF3 soon a guess?). Honestly, I'm not too impressed and I'll miss the old characters. But this is all pre-release stuff so I won't make too many judgments. They had better release the SDK ASAP with the new game so we can breathe some life into it.

Honestly, I'd rather see Half-Life 3.

Graphics look more cartoonish than previous one, I like it. I also agree with Beat about how suddenly they release stuff like this, I though we would enjoy tons of updates and atleast 2 expansions until we'd get second part. Maybe they felt it missed something so badly that this had to be done...

I'd buy it tomorrow if it was released then though, don't care if they give us new version every week (as long as they are good and I have money :P)

And unmentioned is the hazmat zombie that is immune to fire type attacks (lol!). Oh well, $50 is like the cost of filling up a tank of gas.... :P

They could but why would they from a business stand point? They are probably going to earn money on L4D 2 which they assume that L4D users will buy. Which means that L4D players who don't buy L4D 2 get left behind.

I could be wrong (and I hope I am), but a seemingly unlikely scenario.

Its certainly possible for them to add content and "beta test" it before they finalize stuff that will roll into L4D2, but that might be hoping too much.

I think we should be happy that they are continuing to put effort into a game that has been pretty great to play.
