Outrunning the tank and distance booming...

These are two things I just cannot seem to get down myself.

I cannot seem to outrun a tank when green, blue, yellow, whatever. Yet some people seem to be able to out run me when blue. Any ideas?

I have guys booming from great distances and I cannot seem to do the same...any ideas?

Thanks.

The tank outrunning depends on you to keep moving as much as possible in a straight line (some curvature allowed). You need to run at all times as to match the tank's own running speed. This is done apparently only at at your maximum running speed which you have at green health (from my experience).

The boom can be arched to shoot out further. This I too cannot get the hang of but I have seen other players arch their boom slightly higher above their head and that allows the boom to cover a longer distance.

Re: Outrunning the tank and distance booming...

In terms of outrunning a tank, a person running at full speed is faster than a tank. If you're backpedaling I believe you are a tad slower than if you're running away. You're at full speed until you cross the 49hp mark (in yellow), so some yellow survivors can still outrun you.

Any damage that the tank takes in versus will slow him down slightly. (in coop it's the opposite, damage actually SPEEDS UP a tank) so if you're kiting the tank but find that he's able to catch up to you often, try turning and truly running from him.

Boomer bile arcs. There are links in the forum somewhere that show the progression of it. Long story short, arc 30-45 degrees above the plane from your head to achieve maximum distance. The plane being your eye level when you look straight ahead.

Learning to arc you boomer vomit can help alot as it allows you to vomit on survivors without having LOS.

Re: Outrunning the tank and distance booming...

The boomer arc works such that something a bit under 45 degrees gets the farthest effect.

On tank damage shooting the tank slows him down in coop but only if you are within a certain distance. You can shoot and backpedal which helps a bit, or have other survivors chase and shoot... but if they are too far away it won't have the slowing effect. Setting fire speeds him up though, so watch out if he's on fire.

Basically, the best way I find to handle tanks depends on how well you trust your team. If you trust all 4 everyone shoot him so he dies quick. If you don't, run when the music starts and let one of the other sucke...uh, survivors be chased. Once he's locked on to them shoot and do your part... but try real hard to stay out of his radar.

Re: Outrunning the tank and distance booming...

Correct me if I'M wrong, but I think Spyder has a bit of misinformation in that post.

1) Survivor movement speed does not drop until 39 HP, so you can be yellow but still move at full speed.

2) Not all damage slows a tank in versus. I don't think fire affects the tanks positively or negatively in versus. Gunfire DOES slow a tank, but you have to be within a certain distance but I'm not sure what that is.

3) On this one I am least certain about, but I don't think gunfire speeds up the tank in campaign. I know fire does in fact speed him up, but when I play expert my tendency is to run until someone gets caught and then light the tank up with gunfire. (Pun not intended)
