Valve has cleared up one of the two mysteries surrounding the Left 4 Dead 2 demo announcement, the demo will be exclusive to both Steam and Xbox 360 pre-order customers on October 27.
The company did not clarify if the later public demo will be released the following week on November 3, as some retailers are reporting. We’ll report back when we find out.
Pre-order customers will also receive the exclusive in-game baseball bat weapon for use in the full version, though anyone playing on a server with a baseball bat-equipped player will be able to use it.

Rly makes me wonder how thispreorder things will work... so when someone with a preoder is in the game a random percent of "axes" ill morph into "Baseballbats" or something?

In the editor it seems that every item is placed on the map on their own. So only molotow can spawn here and only this type of shotgun can spawn there.

That is really rather lame, we should all be getting the same game. Pre-order bonus should be stuff that is outside of the game such as trinkets, early access to demos or interviews, or other things like that but NOT something exclusive in game.

well in all reality its not really going to be exclusive since valve is setting records with preorder numbers for L4D2 and the instant you play with someone who preordered you get the bat as well

It's just that you cannot use the baseball bat when playing alone or with people who didn't preorder. Many games have done this before. Most without the ability for non-preorderers to ever use them.
It's the kind of thing that makes people who pre-order get more out of the game and make themselves more noticeable in the game.
