Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
This fixed it. Demo was not bad. Very impressive graphics and sounds (except Auto Shotgun which sounds like crap). Melee weapons are neat but I like my pistols for their range since I tend to use the shotty for my primary. I also liked how they mixed different types of pistols.
However there is just not enough new content to call this a new game IMO. It feels more like an expansion pack rather than a brand new game. Fun but not new.Battlefield Samurai 'Banzaaaiii!!!

Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
So, who thinks the demo delay was an attempt by Valve to play up to one more nod of the head to some of their favourite movies?
Is it just my bad maths skills, or did the demo arrive "28 Hours Later" than advertised? And on the 28th, too......I’m not funny, just a little under-medicated.

Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
What you expect? L4D is L4D
5 campaigns
3 new special infected
Melee weapons to fool around
4 new survivors with new lines and story
LOADS of weapons... LOADS
They basically renewed everything that wouldn´t change the prize winning L4D gameplay. What would it take to make it a "new" game? Purple customizeable hairdo for everyone?

Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
Yes,
they changed most of the "bad" stuff from l4d what I can tell. Repetitive gameplay is even less likely to happen with all new content, and new gamemodes hopefully increase game time even further.
With new special infected, gameplay had some tragic changes from what I last played the original (I can recall one time when we tried to take cover in corner to hold off rush). But yes I'm speaking just with the demo experience.
Also the tactical view increased alot from l4d 1, as the continuous event forced us to take formation and move step by step, adrenaline shots were saved for rushes and boomer goo bottle was just too good against witch :P
Enjoyed it, hopefully it will let players get more deep into it, like the other valve multi players do.

Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
What would I expect from a new game? Well what they have done for starters. More dynamics to fit a variety of combat styles and choices for the players as to how they want to get through the map with multiple routes. Customized characters with strengths and weaknesses. Ability to manipulate the world more. More open world. Basicly more core changes to really 'flesh' things out and take things to the next level.
While fun this is more about new models, skins, sounds, maps... much like a mod or expansion.Battlefield Samurai 'Banzaaaiii!!!

Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
Thanks to that latest update, Valve have also added (FINALLY!) the little tweak that if a Lobby Leader in a public lobby goes awol/afk for more than 5 mins, the lobby auto-switches to friends-only, hopefully limiting the amount of time spent in lobbies waiting for them to fill, only to find that the LL is afk!
We only moaned about it on the Valve forums for about 6 months......Last edited by Kebab-Kastike; 11-01-2009 at 12:44 PM. Reason: Language! :(

Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
While those might all be valid points, I just don't get why people are making such a big deal about this. If you don't like it, don't buy the game.
But anyway, for those that weren't there when the demo got delayed:

Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
I'm enjoying it. It is exactly what I expected: L4D+. They took the feel that was L4D and made it more dynamic with new weapons and baddies as well as adding new environments. I am digging the New Orleans jazz music, unfortunately I can't play air trombone and frying pan zombies at the same time.

Saw this about realism mode.
Apparently it is supposed to take teamwork further, but for me it sounded more of a superhard-mode, even though he clearly tried to explain that it wasn't their goal in it. Not sure what I was hoping from it, probably that one shot from friendly weapon would cause you to bleed to death

Re: L4D2 Demo Shenanigans
I dont rly see much challenge except a few shenanigans in Realism mode. No respawn closets would be the biggest cut. The glows are redundant for a good team with VOIP
