Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
My god, that stupid gnome made our lives that much more difficult on Dark Carnival, and that was just on Advanced, non-Realism.

Great, I have the "Steam scanning for games" issue. *sigh*

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
This is what I did to fix that:
1) Quit steam.
2) Go to Steam\Steamapps
3) Rename every cache file containing "Left 4 dead 2" (but not demo) to "s*theoriginalnamehere*".
4) Start steam
5) Remove the s in front of the renamed files.
6) Install L4D2 (it should decrypt the files - grab a coffee, it takes a long time)
7) Enjoy
8*) if you get Invalid Install (2) (or something like that) go to properties and from there select validate cache files.
9*) Cancel the validate and start the game.
10*) see 7
My thoughts:
Overall
Awesome game. The new crescendo events really work. No more corner camping on every time you hear the zombies coming.
New guns, tools and zombies are good.
Only things that bothered me were the crashes I got pretty regularly and that the hunter, smoker, tank, boomer and witch are pretty much pulled out of the achievements this time around. It's all about the new things which might suck for the people who are playing L4D for the first time.
CO-OP
Campaigns follow where the last left off, even more so than in L4D1 that left you guessing.
Each campaign has unique feel to it and finales are different on all of them (unlike before where every finale was pretty much the same thing on different environment.
I didn't see too much of a map layout variation the few times I replayed the campaigns.
Versus
I absolutely love the new special infected. Versus is a bit hard. You have to be against pretty poor team to survive. Specials got a lot of new tools and L4D survivors got to adapt to them.
They also re-did the whole scoreboard system. It makes much more sense now than it did in L4D and it shows a lot information.
Scavenge
Absolutely wonderful game mode.
This might be the thing for the guys who got raged over versus and never wanted to play it after they got the first beating.
Games don't last over 4minutes (most of the time) and the re-play and challenge stuff that goes into the thing is fantastic.
Survival
I haven't tried this yet, but I hope the maps are better designed for survival than in L4D1 (The crane level for example, totally horrible map - one punch and with 98% chance you die, depending on which way the tank was facing - and it's going to happen).
Realism
Haven't tried yet, but seems like very hard game mode.
EDIT: Apparently it's just normal campaigns without the outlines.Last edited by Kebab-Kastike; 11-18-2009 at 06:27 AM.

OR... just wait it out. I had teh same "bug" but if you look in yuor taskmanager you might see steam using alot of CPU. It´s decrypting the game in the background.
When I waited the decrypt bar popped out at around 50%

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
Ah thx Kebab

I think realism on expert will be something utterly different for the toughness of the levels. In simple: No respawning in closets, no hud info. You have no simple way to tell your bud apart from zombie, not to mention what happens if you lose sight of him for a moment.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
Well, the end of the first campaign was awesome! Mixing it up with Scavenger mode, I never expected that.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
I heard realism not only turns off the outlines, but it also puts more emphasis on head shots on zombies. I was kinda hoping less ammo clips, and no longer can you pick up 4 Uzis from one Uzi on the ground (forcing your team mates to figure out how to spread out weapons.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
Not sure how everyone else is doing but I've been attempting expert no realism. To me realism won't make a huge difference on expert. Already I can blow gaping holes through zombies and they still keep coming. Headshotting chargers and other things are the only way to go. Tanks and their new AI decimate our 2 man team unless it gets stuck on something. Two manning it is pretty tough on expert, and it doesn't help that zombies seem to swarm every 30 seconds giving us only 10 seconds rest to find stuff (maybe this is just the map).
Ammo is already a problem. It takes usually 2 clicks for any gun on average to kill a zombie unless you shoot the head or your bullet is a direct hit to its chest area. The shotgun just seems a tad weak (probably because we've only played expert), and we go through ammo reasonably fast (we hit almost every weapon drop area to restock). Friendly fire is through the roof, one shot from a rifle took 70 hp away.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
Personally my favorite gun is the AK-47. Extremely powerful, controllable fire popping one bullet at a time. The only downside is accuracy which really isn't that bad, and it's dead on once you get a lazer sight :P

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
tried a few rounds of expert realism - went pretty well after some adjustments. THE biggest difference rly are NO respawn closets... if you are dead you stay dead for that map.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 release
Today, Bommando, Kebab, Mixa, and I ran across that bridge. The tank ended up knocking them off and I was the only one who lived. Made it to the chopper and I ended up jumping in the water to get the 3 minute achievement. Man was that intense!
