New Versus Scoring system
I'm curious what people think about it so far. I'll give a brief rundown of it from how I understand it, someone correct me if they see something wrong.
(Whiskey, you would love this system btw)
Versus scoring works as follows:
-No more map modifiers.
-No more health bonuses.
-Maps give a flat "maximum points" and scale down based on distance traveled. (which is now far easier to track thanks to their new graphic for it)
-Survivor bonus is 25*number of living survivors at the end of the map.
-If both teams get all 4 survivors to the safehouse, whichever team won as infected (I'm unsure if it works off total damage or # of incaps done) gets 25 bonus points.
Games are A LOT closer as the new system has lower maximum scores then in L$D1. I believe as people learn the maps and get better tactics to deal with the new SI the scores will start to spread out some more, but I think Valve has some knobs to twist now to better be able to make adjustments on the fly to the new scoring system, unlike the old.

Re: New Versus Scoring system
I actually am enjoying it!
Quick question and I might answer it myself:
When the round is scored there are 4 bars that I believe are the distance of each party member, now are those bars in order like the picture? (From left -> right = top -> to bottom)?

Time shall tell whether this system will do this game justice. But honestly, less QQ and raging, more pew pew, more teamwork = I endorse.

New scoring system is better than in the original, but I'm afraid it won't make versus less ragey for those who must win every time they play something.

Re: New Versus Scoring system
Ya
No argument there, but any little bit helps. I've found it's possible to come back in games you are down early as you don't really get down by that much in the early maps. Had a nice comeback earlier on DC where after 3 maps we were down 630 points. ended up winning 2145-2040.
This is off topic from the scoring, but what do you guys think of the default versus difficulty now? I personally don't think it's perfect, but it's a lot closer to where it should be. Maybe my opinion on that will change the more people get used to the maps as survivors.

I agree. Survivors haven't learned the maps yet so infected have bit easier time taking them down. Not to mention most people don't know how to counter the new Special Infected. When charger comes down the alley you want to dodge him instead of standing there. The survivors also yell goo coming in good time before the acid starts to work its magic. Jockeys give good warning of piano music "dun dun dun" when they are spawning that can give good warning to stick closer. Over all it's good to listen though the music\bacteria\ files though to learn the distinct sounds director gives when infected is about to spawn.
I haven't played TG versus game yet, only against pubbies.
It also seems that most you can get from fully survived campaign is 600 points. Easily cached up even you don't survive every campaign, unlike with the first L4D scoring. Well done Valve.|TG| Kebab-Kastike reporting for duty. | Why? Tubes! The internet is tubes!
