Unfortunately it was. I can link the article about it but in a nutshell EA talked with Valve and said basically "Hey, gears of war comes out like 2 day's apart from your release, why not push yours back 2 weeks so you have nothing to compete against."
We all know Valve has zero problems delaying games for the slightest reasons, so they did it, and honestly the choice makes sense from a business standpoint. The good news is there will be a demo/beta for this game and they are using the TF2 business model for this one...
that means Steam pre-orders will get in any beta they run, and it means there will be a lot of free content released on the PC to update/upgrade this game, and some on the 360 (but not as much as on the PC) due to the lengthy certification period and high costs. That plus MS can't comprehend why Valve would want to give something away they typically charge for over the xbox live network so that will muck up the 360 patches. PC is defintely the way to go on this one.
