Looks like I might try this game after all. Especially since Age of Conan is postponed to October 30th.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
I have been signed up for the beta for a while. A little while ago I received an email from Turbine, and it said that I got a stress test key. Anyone else get it? Also, does anyone know if that should work for the regular closed beta?

Stress test is next weekend (and only next weekend) and there seems to be plenty of product keys to give out.
I'll probably check it out to see how my old AC2 engine is doing

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
I also just recieved a closed beta account today. Maybe they are increasing the numbers. It should be pretty cool! I am excited. I am downloading the huge file, they should really update it, because it is taking a hell of a long time to update from the updater, they should just put out a different installer!!
Oh well. At least I will be playing soon!Polinator

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
ok, so i finally get into the game after waiting a whole day and a half (the downloader they provide was a total piece of crap but they were smarter than blizzard and just gave me the .torrent file)
My first impression of this game is CLUNKY. Everything seems too big or too small important text is covered up by useless crap...windows are way too large...quest text is long-winded and not very specific.
I have the graphics settings set to very high as my system can handle it but even when lowered them, i got lag in the controls....just a several milliseconds, but enough to drive me insane.
Im going to play a bit more, but i can already tell that this game is no WOW killer....i can already tell that i wouldnt pay money for this game.
maybe i can get into the warhammer online beta....<hopes>

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
I played for 3 weeks about a month ago, and every time i they send me a new key i jump back in to see if anything has changed. To me its wow with LOTR skins and looks. Nothing is really new in it. All to cartoony for my tastes. Im still waiting for the Pirate one.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
I disagree vehemently Trooper, WOW has this game beaten in nearly every catagory a game is judged in.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
Thats kind of what i was getting at. Really nothing to set itself apart for the other MMOs of its kind. I wasnt impressed.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
I do wonder what happened....I played D&Donline for a while and that game was actually fun and seemed very well designed. Much better than this one.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
freeky you think you a beta game and a 3 year old game can compete?
It will have bugs, it will be clunky in some areas and this is the nature of all games when they first release. The game has all the basics of a matured MMO at launch, running smoothly and will build upon it. That's a feat in itself.
Some of the quests are indeed standard fare however however you won't be grinding by killing mobs with no structure. This game is all about the story arc's.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: Beta
what he is saying is Why play your mmo? and imo LOTRO doesn't answer that question.
