Lord of the Rings Online: TG Guild Formation Discussion!

The free (as in beer) LotR:O open beta is nearing! (Mar. 30th for pre-orders). I thought now would be a great time to bring up forming a Tactical Gamer LotR:O guild.

A TG Guild lined up and ready to go on day one (of open beta) would go a long way for recruitment amongst our community members and player retention.

Let's see if I can get the ball rolling on a few items:
  • Let's decide on a server (we may wait until day one to commit to any particular server; I recommend a server that wasn't a part of the closed beta--they tend to get crowded and laggy quick). For those of us who have pre-ordered, open beta characters will probably be the same characters we will use upon release. At the very least, we should try to be on the same server from the get go.
  • Let's discuss Guild structure.
    1. Hunt down some TG WoW guild leaders for advice.
    2. Soviet style elections for Guild Officers (any SM's up for this.. Vulcan, Greflin??)
    3. If you have advice let it be known!
    4. Recruitment policy
      1. Current TG community members
      2. and in game recruitment
  • Get a blessing from the Mover and Shaker (/waves at Apophis) for this proposed community in a community. If we can get a good sized mob interested in playing TG style, maybe we can beg/borrow/steal our own forum space
  • Get a TG LotR:O community press release ready for the front page. Let's get folks excited to play with us! In our Guild. Get your mind out of the gutter!
  • Discuss your preferred race/class here. Maybe we can, at the very least get, a dynamic Fellowship going!

I know (for a fact) that TG has a lot to offer the MMO space. Our resident WoW guild is wildly successful, we've banded together for D&D online, EVE online, and many others. What I would like to see is an effort to get our ducks in a row so that any TG member who wants to try out the Open Beta will know where to go. Having a community presence in place and ready to go will go a long way in getting the players there and keeping 'em around.

So post below if you're up for helping out! We (I) need your help!

I don't think there is quite enough interest here from what i've seen.

In the event that there isn't, I have a backup plan.

I would be more than happy to do whatever I could to help with this. It is a wonderfull game, and I hope we can get some folks playing. If we do get something going we should consider cordinating primary trade skills and such. This will help us have the easiest time getting suplies we need without having to be gouged for prices in the AH or paying the big postage fees they added. If anyone is interested and needs more information, or has questions post them and you will get whatever answers we can probvide.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: TG Guild Formation Discussion!

I would love there to be a TG guild in LOTRO, but I'm a bit screwed as Turbine Codemasters have split the servers (US vs The Rest of The World). Being a UK member of TG I don't even have access to the US LOTR servers

My guild from SWG (ITEC on Tarquinas) are also going to be setting up in LOTRO, but again they'll be doing it without me

So I'm having to look for a decent quality euro-based kinship for LOTRO, but TG and ITEC have spoilt me - it's hard finding another guild to match.

Is this going be the case when the beta is over?

I would of thought when the full release is out your be able to join any server.

nope on full release the same rules will apply - Europe, Australia & New Zealand versions of the game are through Codemasters and have completely different servers available to the Turbine ones in the US.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: TG Guild Formation Discussion!

Yes it is phaze and one of the major problems with this release. The reason they had to do it was because of the publishers. They couldn't get a worldwide publisher that accepted their terms for development. It's a touchy thing since they are going very much by the book. I don't know what press releases said but that is the basis behind it.

Anyway maybe that'll change at some point.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: TG Guild Formation Discussion!

They have given us the full server list for release. We should pick one other than Meneldor for the reasons Rince listed. Gladden perhaps? Thoughts?

Brandywine
Elendilmir
Gladden
Landroval
Meneldor
Silverlode
Windfola

Full post here.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: TG Guild Formation Discussion!

It appears that the majority of TG members will be playing on Elendilmir during open beta.

If you find yourself wanting to play in the open beta with fellow TGer's, hop on to the Elendilmir server!

More details to come.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: TG Guild Formation Discussion!

I'll be AT LEAST in the open beta on April 6th... maybe March 30th... havent decided yet.

I will say this, after having experience with WoW beta and release with my own guild (before I joined TG_WoW) - If the server you choose ends up becoming "full" and laggy... IMMEDIATELY switch: do not pass go, do not collect $200. It's not worth the aggravation. As long as we get to play together in a smooth environment we'll have lots of fun. I dont mind having to re-level, but I will /gquit if I encounter ping issues.

Someone will post a list of the names of TG characters on Elendilmir after Founders Open Beta begins tomorrow.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online: TG Guild Formation Discussion!

So what do I have to do for this? Does the open beta here mean free, or must I pay some cash to play this?
