I'm this close....

to running out and picking this up - I figure it'll help keep me out of the poker rooms late at night out here in Vegas.

How many TGers are currently playing? If there's a solid core grp I'd definitely be down especially since it is a new game. I'm enjoying WoW but it stinks being so far behind everyone in it. I have to rely on PUGs for everything or go it alone. LOTR would give me a chance to get in on the ground floor w/ a bunch of good ppl to play with.

What's everyone's opinion of the game so far?

Re: I'm this close....

I bought this game about 3-4 days ago and I am abosutely loving it. I bought the euro version, not the US one, though so sadly I can't play with you guys.
Anyway, this game really rocks. The graphics are very neat (and you will need quite a good pc to run it) and the game atmosphere is top of the notch. The fights are pretty quick and intense, except for the rather long elite boss battles. The quests are okay too, not too much grinding and some are very original, I like. On the good pc side, I was having quite some lag in the populated areas (Bree for example) with 1 gig of RAM, Pentium D 3.4 Ghz and Nvidia GeForce 7600GS, so be warned.
If you have any other questions about the game just ask me

Oh and I definitely recommend this one

How is the grouping on the Euro server you are on? I like being able to be play solo sometimes but the thing with WoW is that unless you are 60+ or in an instance there is no grouping at all in mid-levels even for just xp or regular quests...

I've done some poking around forums and stuff but how are the drops for items handled? Does every really good drop come from instance settings where everyone in the instance grp is there for the same things (WoW)? Or do you have a pretty decent chance of having random interesting items drop off non-instance mobs?

Re: I'm this close....

I can give you positive answers to both questions. The (European) community is really nice and as soon as you get a quest with a hard elite boss there are people wanting to group up everywhere. When quests involve kill a couple of "xxx" and they spawn limited there are always people who want to group up, so that you get both credited for the kill.
About the loot, in my experience you will get very decent loot from random monsters too. I am not sure about the higher level loot, since I am just lvl 14, so I can't tell about that. What I do know is that you won't have to be raiding for high level armor if you are nearing lvl 50. This is because you will be able to create your own armor with crafting. Armor you've created this way is said to be very decent too.
