Discussion: Natural Selection / Natural Selection - General Discussion - Game alive - I was thinkin of downloading this mod and was wondering is the server is alive.
The server populates in waves that can be measured in months. We're in a low cycle at the moment, and this one was exacerbated by server problems that have been fixed for some time now (but that initially occurred night after night and caused people to drift away).
Even as NS grows smaller and smaller as a game (game-wide population), the same pattern always applies: people leave, figure out that little else in their meager lives is as satisfying as TGNS, and eventually return.
Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

I mostly play TF2 nowadays, but would love to get back to some good ol fashioned ns. I'll go ahead and join that waiting room group, if it's still being used.
Not just a TG TF2 server (because from what I hear that one isn't very good)
Provided you aren't being sarcastic: have you ever played there? Besides, I'm sure a number of long time TGNSers who play on the TG:TF2 server from time to time might disagree.
That said, I've hit up the TGNS server a few times when I needed a break from TG:TF2 and I found that the quality of games and brutally hilarious losses hasn't changed much since I've been gone. The game has slowed down (after over 4 years, which tells you something about it's longevity), but it is far from "dead."
It's really slowed down a lot, but there are enough games going most of the time that you can find a decent one without bots. Hopefully when NS2 is within sight, people will start coming back to it.
Read the TG Primer, the TGNS Primer and most importantly, the TGNS Rules | My Website!! birdie_in_Texas:ok..i feel stupid here..what is "NS"..? Wyzcrak:Natural Selection. Don't feel at a loss for not knowing the acronym. Feel at a loss for not having experienced the game.
Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
