Re: admins (and now temp admins) make CD optional

I understand ender, the fact was that I had 2 active people on my team...I at least needed skulk fodder or something. This is the only other reason I didn't mostly want to deal with it. But yah...in general, I don't mind being an admin and taking care of things, but the degree to which we've had to today is simply unacceptable.

Re: admins (and now temp admins) make CD optional

edit: I was gonna bitch and gripe but I will give this another day or two...

PS - can we make it so people running CD have a higher priority then those who don't (ie. random NO-CDer is kicked to allow those with cd to join). I believe we had a setup like that at one point and I enjoyed it. If so, perhaps kick NO-CD who has spent the least time on the server?

1) Newbie Tuesday would work with advertising
2) The "Two vote for CD-OPT" is a good idea
3) What about member taking turns at spec (have the server rotate through who's there), add a slot on the server so it's still 8v8 (plus one for HLTV or take that away, plus another for the spec) and have an "Admin Spec Cop" that takes care of the server regulation for a game.

I'd be willing to do #3 -- with the number of members, that's probably just one game a night. Sit in spec, watch the teams, coach the newbies where I can, and kick those that aren't acting right - of course with prompting from the team-members.

I'm coming on in a few and will help up the pool.

I wouldn't say a minimum level of skill, but perhaps one of effort. There are some newbies out there really into teamwork and all, but suck at shooting or tactics or whatever. If a person is following every order and request, covering their teammates, etc, but suck at aiming or whatever, I'm perfectly willing to work with them, provide tips to expand their game, etc. I'm not gona shun some newbie that follows orders and is a team player, but can't shoot.

Also...bagel mentioned that english needs to be mandatory :P. A fair requirement if you ask me.

I would also be happy to sit out a game here and there to do some policing (especially if we lower it to newbie tuesday or something), but of course we have to make sure that whatever member is speccing DOES recieve admin...I currently think its only one marine, and one alien member, Ready room and spec don't currently grant admin, to my knowledge.

And with psay, we could do some coaching, yes, which would be nice.

Rumor is that there are Game Officers running around who meet this description, too. Personally.. I think it's all lies. Seriously though, good attitude. This is what helps new players feel comfortable.

Ok, here's what we're going to try next:

This weekend, I will author the plugin which allows two admins, on opposite teams and only in concert, to place the server in CDOPT mode for the duration of a map. The command will be something similar to 'say /cdopt', so as to allow all players on the server to know which admins are taking responsibility for the change.

Also, when in CDOPT mode, and when a player WITH reservation attempts to join, the server will remove with priority players without reservation. Reservation is given to players running CD, as well as those with any other game icon next to their name (not just our custom/admin icons). That means that a player without CD can still have reservation, but they're likely to be a vet or CM member, which is helpful more than it's harmful.

I have yet to figure out a way to allow those running CD to kick players who are not running CD, as the server cannot verify you're running CD until some time after you've joined. I intend to research possibilities of allowing those with CD to first join HLTV and allow the server to verify the presence of CD through the HLTV proxy. Time will tell.

Thank you very much, to everyone, for the helpful contributions to this thread. I'm an admin every time I'm on the server. I'm very aware of the frustrations you're experiencing.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

A lot of the regulars here fall into that category as well. Don't exclude based on "lower" skill, lol. That was pretty funny to me, sorry.

I should of been more clear, but I was in a rush to go meet friends for dinner...

But Muffin nailed it on the head. What I mean is effort, and even skill requires effort because you have to put it forth to learn. Anywho...

This plugin has been disabled.

Cheating Death is now required on the server.
