Anyone want to experiement with tactics in this game?

I would like to experiment with tactics (not strategy) in this game. I want to get a few people in a sandbox environment to work on tactics. I see some things in the game and would like to see if some of my idea could really improve game play.

This is for anyone and everyone so if you feel like you suck, please don't hesitate to join us this will be a leaning experience for everyone. Remember we all "Green" at once point.

    Anyone interested?

Can you give an example? I'm having a hard time differentiating tactics and strategy.

Re: Anyone want to experiement with tactics in this game?

I would think the difference between tactics and strategy is that strategy would be mainly dictated by the comm ( where to go, build and upgrade orders) while tactics would be the teamwork during skirmishes in the field. Sounds like an interesting idea but I'll wait for solarity to expand on his thoughts before I speak his mind for him.

    Roland is correct.

    1) how to secure a room
    2) how to work with other players
    3) How to properly support heavies and how to play as a heavy
    4) What to attack and when to attack.
    5) How to play as support

    Marine suggestions:

    1) how to secure a room - stand 10-20m apart, shoot the skulks that attack other players. Have players that are keeping eyes on vents state that they are.
    2) how to work with other players - keep voice comms to enemy position reports, commander orders, or local directions by a 'sergeant' as much as possible
    3) How to properly support heavies and how to play as a heavy - heavies kill all enemy lifeforms and structures, lights kill things on heavy's feet and weld as their primary focus
    4) What to attack and when to attack. - very situation dependent. If gaining territory kill lifeforms then structures. If focusing on killing a hive quickly then only kill Crags/gorges if multiple are present otherwise hive first and lifeforms second
    5) How to play as support - not sure if this is different from #3, unless you mean GL/Flamethrower

Aliens are completely different, for example gorges have to choose between support healing and bile bombing so they aren't the same choices as marine welders who don't attack structures. For aliens, rushing a defended room successfully consists of onos, lerks, and fades kill or keep marines occupied while gorges bile bomb and skulks eat structures. Securing rooms is more structure dependent or reacting fast if the marines come to a room.

Overall, tactics are more general than something like Battlefield or Counterstrike where area coverage per player matters since NS2 is more run and gun. There are still tactics, but it will end up being more of a priority list based on what is involved because the conditions change so fast.

Although a marine rush on the hive should have all marines focused on the hive, a single player who is very accurate at killing moving skulks efficiently improves the situation by killing spawning skulks while a rookie might waste their clip missing the skulk where they could instead put all of their bullets in the hive because it is a large non-moving target. That is less of a planned tactic than individuals making that priority decision of hive before life form, where it is a priority for the team but not an absolute rule for the individual.

An addition to #1 is to keep an eye on your minimap since what your teammates have line of sight (even if hiding in shadows ) with will show up. I often run into a room and turn a circle while looking at my minimap, which has alerted me to a hiding skulk I wouldn't have otherwise noticed.

I'd be up for some tactic practice, I can see in pubs that being a better play style if you have 2 or 3 people who know how to clear a room and work together.
DO AS I COMMAND - Megatron possibly the hardest working commander ever known.
