Aliens was a good action film but it turned the alien from a mysterious, scary creature we only saw in glimpses into stupid cannon-fodder.

You mean highly-trained and well equiped marines were able to decimate a larger force through tactics and superior firepower better than a bunch of space miners and convicts with no real weapons?

Funny how that works. If anything, I would think Aliens did a great job portraying how these scary aliens would fare against actual weapons. The only reason the marines got beat anyways was due to special circumstances (No explosive rounds in the reactor area) and inept leadership (a major plot point).
