latest steam update: data=choke
Well, the latest Steam update has screwed me.
Essentially, any amount of data sent to my HL client causes my choke to spike through the roof. You can't play like that, so I'll be sitting out for a while and constantly searching for a fix.
None of my rate/cl_rate/cl_cmdrate/etc settings have changed.
argh.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

I've been getting this too wyz. I read in the general forum about the network being all pissy, maybe is this the issue we're both having?

i haven't had any problems and i haven't seen any dramtic drop in players so i dont think that it is that widespread...

I have this problem on all NS servers. I have read in Steam's forums about it impacting other players, including NS players, but the amount of press it's getting in Steam's forums makes me think it's only impacting a small percentage of users.
I wonder what the problem is.

Have you guys been getting occasional ping spikes into the thousands? I know I have, but I'm not sure if it's my ISP(damn Adelphia) or not because this has happened in the past.

yeah so we have to reinstall steam every other week when we have problems. Kinda reminds me of a friend of mine who used to reformat his comp like 2 or 3 times a month when windows 98 was out cause he hated it getting glogged up.

FYI there was some backbone problems in the TG area last weekend. This probably has nothing to do with it.
