Re: NS The Best?
Those are called lerks (there are also leaping skulks, or blinking fades). Once you play the game more you'll start to pickup on strats to kill them or anticipate their next move... (this sense comes better when you've played alien as a while to and you get a feel for how they work)

Re: NS The Best?
That's the whole point behind the statement that it's worth 10 bucks to play HL. HL and HL2 both have endless possibilities on mods. Invest a few days into The Specialists for HL1 and you'll know that the HL1 engine was the most advanced engine for it's time. HL1 is definately worth it's 10 bucks because instead of getting 1 game, you get many.

Hl1 did have the best engine of its time... but the new one just blows it away.

Re: NS The Best?
Meh, Chess has crappy graphics and look how much depth it has. NS is very similiar to chess in that aspect....but it has pretty decent graphics and twitch gaming that is so addicitive it can be likened to cocaine.

Re: NS The Best?
HL1 came out in 95 i think. It's now 06, that's 11 years old for a game... an engine.. (correct me if i'm wrong).
I've been playing NS for about a year and a half now, since right when 2.0 was released, i was there for the introduction of the co maps (blah), and all the wonderful changes there have been. I honestly, have never, in my life, found a game, that has managed to grasp my attention so well, and hold it for such a long period of time.
I think, in fact, I can put a finger on the exact reason I havn't dropped this game.
I never get bored when I'm learning something new. And I never have a game where a new idea, or thought hasn't crossed my head.
In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns.Ambriento for comm! Vote today!Yes, in some games I think NS is nothing but a well-managed set of minor miracles. - Wyzcrak

Outside of nightwatch NS really made the engine shine. I hope they can do the same for source.

Re: NS The Best?
I want Episode 1 to come out soon... but do you guys like their new idea to to make smaller Episodes and release them more often or would you rather have 1 game every 4-5 years?

Re: NS The Best?
Probably the episodes, along as each was good for more than just a couple of hours. Besides, it shouldn't be too hard for them. The engine is built, and most of the models/textures/animations/weapons/sounds/etc. are already in the game. They just need to make maps, and unleash the occasional new thing. This'll also lessen pressure on the map teams while they upgrade their engine to stay current, as the maps don't need the upgrades to be released.

Half-Life is, without a doubt, the best value a FPS gamer could possibly get. It was true when it was 40 bucks, and it's true now for 10 bucks. Hurry up and get it. You won't be disappointed.
