Re: NS2 showcase: Dynamic Infestation!
It looks nice but i wonder how much server time it will eat up.
By the time NS2 comes out i would not be surprised if the server has something like Intel quad-core or better required. After all, it going to be several years at least before it comes out right? And by then a quad-core machine would be affordable, maybe even 8 core machines.
I know that I seen something like this before, but where was it?

Re: NS2 showcase: Dynamic Infestation!
I'd imagine it might ("might"... /giggle) have similar aspects from Starcraft's Creep, which, humorously enough, has a wikipedia link in the blog. I.E. regeneration boost for aliens, very minor speed boost for aliens or speed reduction for marines and possibly, as very similar to SC, the inability for structures to be placed on top of it by an opposing race. That alone makes it a scary concept and massive strategic component that a commander would have to be well aware of at all times.

Re: NS2 showcase: Dynamic Infestation!
Yeah, but does it eat structures or recoil from then after they've already been placed?

Re: NS2 showcase: Dynamic Infestation!
I would think at each marine structure would push back the infestation. Making something like marine's structure would be able to send out nanites to counter the infestation. And a Flame Thrower/anti infection grenade could be required to build the phase gate to get the other marines in there. Likewise, alien structures build a lot slower near any marine stucture, but faster when in/near infestation.

Re: NS2 showcase: Dynamic Infestation!
What if electrification were made available on more structures and would cause the creep to be pushed back, and otherwise (without elec) structures were engulfed? Then elec would become a viable tactical option when structures were in enemy territory.

Re: NS2 showcase: Dynamic Infestation!
yeah i was thinking the same thing, or would it in fact be so effective a idea that if per say a gorge were able to somehow add to the rate/area on which it grew, could the infestation be an effective means for short ciruiting electrical defenses?
and also, if the aliens get stuff like that can we add carpeting to the marines side, it would make everything a lot more comfortable in base, where often enough i sometimes find a lot of my team during combat maps...
couches?

Re: NS2 showcase: Dynamic Infestation!
I can't even post enough links to show how much attention this one little video has gotten all over the video game community, it's being hailed as something downright revolutionary and amazing by 98% of people who see it (on an internet filled with 90% opinionated angst driven teenagers!).

Bolded and underlined portion... don't read that while drinking anything.
Now on the thing that he said there with how much attention this video has gotten, it's no longer a case of they "might" put it in, it's a little too wide-spread and popular to say "eh, can't use it". Double-edged sword; this blog, video, and popularity can be a curse or a blessing depending on what happens.

Re: NS2 showcase: Dynamic Infestation!
Friend of mine in the neighborhood (far from both teenagedom and angst
) was over at the house last night. He games ... some, but never on PCs... he's a console guy. He's a tech nerd for sure, but he's not really what I'd call a "gamer" like I'd call us gamers.
Anyway, we're talking about this and that, and he says "so how about that Dynamic Infestation video for that game you play? Pretty neat."
That's when I knew the video was getting around, somewhere. I don't know where he saw it, but it surprised me that he had.Steam Community? Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.
