Re: TGNS Server Two
It does seem that gameplay has suffered due to this change combined with the usual lack of SM's/Admins on server two. I don't think server one has really been affected that much.
I don't think that the "page_admin" command was nearly as effective as gb in maintaining the server's standards of conduct.

Re: TGNS Server Two
I agree with Tempest about GB making people want to become SM's, but to a different degree.
Most of the regs on the server are in the same position I'm in. I would absolutely love to contribute money to the TG community, but I'm a full-time student and I just can't afford it. In the future, when I can afford it, I'm sure to have a permanent SM status here at TG, but for the time being, I'm in the hole.
Drawing more SM's doesn't happen over night. We have to help these people understand what we strive to achieve here at TG before they will even begin to want to become an SM. Sure, you get admin. Sure, you can get access to all these cools features. You can even buy your own TG thong, but the fact of the matter is that without someone showing these people what we expect from them, and what we want our game play to be, they'll never have a yearning like most of us do to contribute.
You have to make friends here at TG before you want to contribute. After you've made friends and understand what it is we strive to achieve, you get a growing desire to help the community because it's not just a community anymore, it's your community. It's your game play, your friends, and your nightly activities.
Someone said above that the people who we want to be regulars at TG should only need voice comm warnings. That is true, but you have to realize that the people we want here at TG are going to be few and far between. So we are leaving the rest, at this point, to suffer a ban for a minor infraction that merits a kick.
I, as well, have seen great things come from the admin team here at TG, so I expect that you will find a substitute for the gb command soon. What I'm not understanding is why we removed it in the first place. SM's already had amx_kick, or atleast I thought they did, so why give them the gb command? I seem to have heard that we've removed the points system, but that still doesn't limit us to removing the gb command all together.
I will show my patience as well, for the time being, but I can't seem to see a better solution to our problems than what the gb command has already provided.

Re: TGNS Server Two
I just want to say this: I'm a full time student and I've been a full time student since I started at TG two years ago. I have made sure that I set aside $80 from one of my part time jobs paycheck a year in order to keep an SM (ignore the fact I don't have one right now, it ran out a week before I thought it was going to. The money is being transferred to Paypal as I type.), and while I can understand that money as a college student is scarce, it's completely possible with a little planning ahead.
I used this same logic to explain to my friend why I pay for both a WoW and a TG subscription. I have very few vices and those are my excessive soda and coffee drinking and videogames, and really, compared to what I could have as a vice, those are relatively cheap. Overall, I pay a bit over 20 bucks a month for both my subscriptions. Compared to what a pack a day smoker pays or people paying for their 12 packs , what I spend is very cheap.
So if you're complaining about not being able to access something due to a lack of a subscription and you want to be able to do that, buy a subscription. Give up two value meals a month (2 combo meals pretty much anywhere will run you up about 10 bucks, that'll pay for a month of SM no problem), if you're like my sister and shop all the time, forgo that pair of 30 dollar jeans, and if you smoke or drink, look at how much you're spending on that and how much you could have if you didn't.
And then, once you pick one thing to give up, you'll be able to buy a month here. One month of SM is worth $8.95, but, I believe, the things you are rewarded with are worth much much more.--------

Re: TGNS Server Two
I guess there's always the notion that if everyone on the server responds to a non-regs infractions the same way. I remember when I first played on TG and accidentally cursed in text chat when a teammate bit me to death. I was instantly treated to a spamming of "Hey watch your language!" or "Read the rules buddy!" Suffice to say, not one of my proudest moments.
The thing is if everyone lets the non-reg in quesion know that he's not following the rules, it shows that the server isn't following thru on their rules. For the most part they should correct their behavior and most of the time appologize for what happened. I know I did

Re: TGNS Server Two
daily. i pay bills.
and in response to sirius's post, thats how it SHOULD be. the way it actually is goes something like this (and many of you can vouch as you've seen me have this battle a hundred times in the last week or so)
Player:F****** A*******
Ferris: watch your language plz.
Player: why? i'm allowed to say whatever i want.
Ferris: it's in the server rules. for clarification please type /rules in chat.
Player: so? this game is rated M for mature, i can say what I want.
Ferris: look, the rules are in place for a reason. we have adult members with children who watch them play and dont care for the objectionable language.
Player: thats not my problem, ill say what i want.
Ferris: if you dont like the way the rules are set up here, feel free to play elsewhere. we like the environment we have here.
Player: whatever, f*** you.
Ferris Bueller: gb Player ("please respect the server rules while playing here").
and so on.
Today, I had to gb the same guy twice before he decided he didnt want to come back for F4ing. I gave him 3 or 4 warnings each time. My next step was to page an admin and have him banned. Sufficed to say that sirius, youre an example of what should happen when someone breaks the rules unknowingly. Most of the time, it goes the way I depicted above, and thats the burden we deal with running a clean shop. Fortunately, the community at large does an excellent job and we dont have many problems. This little downswing that we're experiencing is only temporary, rest assured. Solutions are in the works, as we've all been told. Have faith.

Re: TGNS Server Two
$8.95 a month is expensive when we can barely afford food. I bought 8 cans of soup the other day with the last of our money. It's the 18th of the month, I have a half a tank of gas to get me back and forth to school which is 50 miles round trip for the next week. My family is in a bit of a rut at the moment, and me being a student doesn't help.
I would say, "Sure, I can give up my value meals," but I don't eat any. In fact, I'm lucky to be over 1 meal a day, but we're getting by. My education has broken my family financially, and I don't have any way to help them. Part time jobs are fictional around here. The best I can do is 40 hours a week at a factory 3rd shift. I can't go to school and do that at the same time.
All of this is irrelevant to the fact. The fact is and always will be that unless someone appreciates TG for what it is, they will never consider paying 8.95, or 4.95 for that matter. In what manner does gb affect how people appreciate TG? It doesn't, but it lets us decide who will appreciate TG, and who doesn't deserve the chance to appreciate TG. The only reason that we even have SM's in the NS section is because we keep the server under our control, run by our rules, and at a standard that's addicting to play. If we give up our control and let hooligans run all over the server mid-day, then we'll start seeing less and less good games late night.
This has nothing to do with me, or us, griping about not having the ability to kick people, or not having access to certain features. This has to do with us trying to keep the server controlled by US.
/end rant

Re: TGNS Server Two
Per team, one (and only one) registered player, SM or not, will be given a gray scoreboard icon. The gray scoreboard icon now denotes access to 'gb'.
A player who has temp admin will never be given 'gb' (he doesn't need it), but you'll see gray gb icons and green temp admin icons on the same team. You'll never see either on a team with even a single full admin.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Re: TGNS Server Two
Is a different icon used for SM vs gb? not sure I like that if that's the case. :P
Other then that though...
Seems like a pretty good solution. It's better than no gb, but we still get the whole problem about what if a registered player doesn't use their power. At least it's there now I guess.
Do you have a way to pass it between registered players similar to how temp admin can be passed between SMs?

Re: TGNS Server Two
I think the grey icon is a wonderful solution, I was not aware of what it was when I played today, and while I have never had occasion to use GB, it is a lot easier to tell people to stop cursing if it can be backed up with a valid kick threat. I don't think it was necessary for all regulars, one per team when admins are not around i nice.
As far as the supporting member cost, I always valued the non-paying members in the CS clan I was a contributing member for as much as I have seen TG do. I was very impressed with the team play and community and forgave the language restriction (I personally find them bizarre for a mature game but realize everyone is different) and continued to play here. I have obviously not become a supporting member yet, although I have considered it, and I have mainly resisted because the main game I play is NS and it has bounced around enough on the server for me not to have made up my mind. I do not like non-respectful tones towards the non supporting regulars for being cheap, their playing for free keeps the server active for the paying members too, and not everyone has that little bit extra to spend. Much like a good game demo, a little time played for free with a good experience can lead to years of loyalty and support.
