Re: SM kicking system + respect
If you have the gray icon, SM or not, it's because you opted in. SM or not, you're required to act when you have the gray icon.
If you're not a full admin, you're never required to act unless you have the gray icon. Even then, you can choose to NOT act if people are telling you it's necessary, but expect administrative review of that decision if someone complains, and expect to have your opt-in revoked if you regularly show poor judgement when you have the gray icon.
Gray icon means business.

Re: SM kicking system + respect
I would like to add something here.
As much as this whole share gb system is, I do not like how it has happened.
We have ? mark people, unknown people who may or may not be good, at the very least if they last, they can communicate. However a server is not built on people who can play, but on people who can play with each other. Right now, most of the regs have as much safety from the kick as the ? who just downloaded this game today. Yes, new blood is nice and all, but I do want to see those regs that we know and enjoy playing with have more safety then they do now.
I was thinking, could the regs be a little more favored aginst kick system? Say make it that regs that don't want to share gb get an effective +10mins time on the server when it comes to bumping. That way, they can stay on a little longer, so that when sms join, they don't find they kicked there friends they joined to play with as much.
Nothing spoils my my fun, quite like forcing the connection to tgns to play with someone, to find them kicked by me, when there many (a lot more the 3) ? marks on the server already.

Re: SM kicking system + respect
that was a point that was long debated when the sharegb idea rolled out. but it was decided that the best way to do it was to give the regs who couldnt/didnt want to get SM the ability to have preference in the hierarchy of slotkicks in exchange for their willingness to police the server when the need arises.
I understand what you're saying lost, and yes, keeping a good server population is HARD. You have to have people who are willing to put up a fight to keep it that way. The admins pick up a lot of the weight, but we have a unique system which allows the community at large to shoulder some of the burden if they so choose. That was the main reason behind implementing the mandatory action for people with the gray icon.
So while I see what you're saying, I'd have to disagree in that regs who dont opt in shouldnt get any perks at all since theyre effectively saying "i like it here, but not enough to help out". If you expect preferential treatment because you play here a lot, then you better be ready to do your part. The acronym to remember is: TANSTAAFL (There Aint No Such Thing As A Free Lunch).
It takes 5 seconds to drop the console and type sharegb. it takes 10 seconds to type 'gb PlayerX "watch your language" '. Truth being that you may opt in and never have to do that, but its what you offer in exchange.

Re: SM kicking system + respect
Just a few other commands that I feel people should note:
passgb: If you have opted in but for some reason feel as though you may not be able to enforce rules that round (ie you're commanding and don't want to be distracted), make sure you use the passgb <player name> to someone who will be available.
passadmin: While the administrative community here have stated that as a temp admin you are not required to act, if you don't intend to do anything why not pass off your temp admin to a SM who might (passadmin <player name>)?
