    Xtc, I really would appreciate it if you didn't give up. I have no working knowledge of inserting objects into the map, but I know that you can go online and download prefabed objects to add that already have textures applied. Chances are the object's textures are missing, or something.

    You can texture your crates by searching for crate textures in the apply textures tool. There should be textures for them, and if there aren't, just leave the objects out or build them yourself. Building a crate isn't hard. In fact, building a lamp isn't entirely too hard.

    I'd like to see people in the TS Half-Life Engine for support for those of us who are just learning Hammer. If this is going to be a community effort, we need to have a place for people to come for immediate help, so if you have a fairly working knowledge of Hammer and it's uses, please idle in the TS-Half Life Engine channel when you're playing or just goofing off or have some time to spare.

    Also, we still need to discuss hive designs. If you guys are as interested as these seven some pages show, let's get to talking and get this thing started.

    Let's decide on the hive theme's first, and then work our way out. I figure the hives will take the most work, and the most teamwork, so I think it's a good place to get started.

    Actually there are some built in prefabs, If you select the Select Tool or the Block Creation Tool on your right side, you'll see this:



    Now if you go under Categories, you can choose from a couple of objects (computers, crates, random stuff). Pick random stuff if you don't see it listed.

    Then under Objects, you can choose what you want, then just draw it like you would a box, or any primitive.

    Alternatively, thanks mom for letting me know about this, you can choose Primitives as your Categorie, and then choose from all sorts of other shapes rather than just block. Like a cylinder, for those rounded edges on som maps. That way you don't have to mess with vertex mode.

    I think the easiet way to come up with a hive "theme" would be to start by naming the hive.

    This takes place in a factory like setting so we just need some large areas that would be present in a factory and pick three for hives.

    My suggestions:
    Generator
    Cargo
    Testing Lab
    Research Lab
    Manufacturing
    Mess Hall
    Crew Quarters
    Assembly Line
    Coolant

    Also "Facility" sounds cool instead of Lab, at least it does to me.

    Hey YerMom, I think I found out how to slow down marines in the hive area with friction. It has to do with one of the entity brushs I believe. I could tell you more specificly if you're still intrested.

    I like the Assembly Line idea. It adds to the factory effect.

    Anyone else?

    Sirus, I can't seem to grasp what you're trying to set up when you refer to setting up Hammer 3.4 for NS. You can set up any Hammer for NS, unless you're refering to launching the game from Hammer after compiling the map, it just takes configuration and I explained that the other night in the TS Session, and a guide to do it is also located in this thread a few pages back.

    Just confused on what your trying to set up?

    Yeah thats why I gave up. All the computers/ lights/ bs I created had no working textures to go with them and so I had to find textures for them myself and they looked awfully terrible.

    All the hammer prefabs use half-life textures. If you want to use those you should make sure you add the following textures to hammer

    half-life.wad
    liquids.wad
    xeno.wad
    decals.wad

    Most of the prefabs just use textures from half-life.wad

    Prefabs are nice but you can't make a whole map out of prefabs. If not being able to use prefabs makes this too much trouble you should probably stop now.

    Try to avoid "Generator" and "Cargo" simply because those are such common names. Of course, sometimes they just really fit the area, but if you can find any alternative then try that first.

    Let's play it this way... if you want to do a hive, pick one from this list:

    Testing Lab
    Research Lab
    Manufacturing
    Mess Hall
    Crew Quarters
    Assembly Line
    Coolant
    Processing
    Pipeline
    Steam Ducts
    Assembly Room
    Water Filtration(Purification)

    Or create your own theme and post it.

    We'll accept a maximum of 6 hive rooms (blueprints, not rooms themselves) total, 2 hive room restriction on each individual. Compare them all and decide from there. The 3 people that have the most votes from the community will be able to create the hive room with the assistance of other members if that person so chooses.
