I Hate Steam.

So last week I concepted some stuff for my section of the map, and this week I was going to mess with it - I get on my studio comp (steam in offline mode, computer has virtually no internet access by design) and I start making some brushes, I add a skybox and info_player_start and compile the map then I go to launch NS - the damn NS client is giving me the following and not even LETTING ME INTO MY MAP without steam authentication:

Code:
No masters loaded
Using default master
Steam validation rejected
Ad infinitum. This is driving me insane - and it isn't entirely steam-specific (Source mapping works fine). I'm gonna try loading half life and then installing NS into it - I don't know if that'll work, but it's worth a shot.

Anyone have any other ideas?

PS: Wow. I loaded an entire new instance of HL just to do this and when I try to create a game it gives the error:

Code:
could not load library C:\Program Files\Valve\half-life/NS/cl_dlls/client.dll
I have that library in that place (although the NS folder is "ns" not "NS")

UPDATE: Patching doesn't work, I think it's unsupported. Anyone have any ideas?

My NS folder is labeled "ns" not "NS" as well.

Re: I Hate Steam.

I found, back when I had dial up. That I could not even play games in offline mode. That was before I bought Half Life 2 and other Source games. I believe that Valve just has a problem with offline mode that they to neglect for some reason.

I'm afraid the only thing I can tell you is that you'll have to run it on online mode to get it to work

Re: I Hate Steam.

That won't happen.

I'll either compile ns maps for HL without any ns-specific entities, and then format them later, or I'll map on a different computer.

Whatever I do, I'm too pissed off to map right now.

Such a stupid problem. This is the kind of thing that causes people to boycott companies.

The irony being that you have to go on line to find out how to run steam in off line mode...
