What to do when you've been banned
You send a forum PM (don't use IRC) to a TGNS admin (preferably the one who banned you, but any will do if not).
Tell him your SteamID, the playername you were using when you were banned, and any questions you have about the matter. With rare exception, bans are issued on TGNS to players whom we hope to welcome back, but not until we've had a chance to have a one-on-one talk. It's one of the many ways we manage quality control on the server. Warns and kicks happen, but bans come swiftly to those who prove unable and/or unwilling to play within TGNS rules. Yes, some bans are permanent (typically repeat offenders), but most requests for re-entry are granted after simple discussion, as most folks who ever play here have what it takes to respect the server, its rules, and its playerbase, even if it takes a brief ban to realize how much so. So, you're banned. Consider it an opportunity. Fire off a PM, and let's get things straightened out.

What do I do when there's a cheater on the server?
Most important is what you don't do: do NOT speak publicly (no voicecomm, no "say", and NO "say_team"). If you publicly accuse someone of cheating, you'll likely be removed from the server.
1. Speaking publicly alerts the cheater that admins are trying to determine whether or not he is cheating. This is bad, as the suspect will disable his cheats for the duration of the time he suspects he is being watched, regardless of whether or not he really is being watched. 2. Speaking publicly creates drama, which has no place on the server. 3. Speaking publicly makes you look like an idiot if you're wrong (don't mistake our concern for your image as an invitation to use discretion -- don't speak publicly, period). 4. Don't spectate. Play the game. If a couple games get ruined because there's a cheater on the server, so be it. If there's no admin around, you're just SOL until there is. If you must observe a player, use HLTV, NOT spectator slots on the server, to do so. Now, having not spoken publicly, and not having spectated using the server, here's what you CAN do: 1. Notify an admin (temp is not best, but it's better than nothing) privately and immediately. This doesn't mean "team say".. this means privately. Use @chat (team chat begun with a "@", which only admins see), even if it goes to temp admins as well (that's fine). Give the admin information. Do not tell the admin how (or at what pace) to act. You're finished now. Continue to play until something is done, or leave in disgust. It's your call. 2. If no admin (full; ''temp-admins are never required to act'') is around: begin a private discussion with an admin (forum PM, email, IM, Teamspeak, etc) regarding what you'd like them to look for in the demo, when the game happened, and on what map, and the playername (and SteamID; we can find it if you don't have it) of the suspect. Admins already have server-side HLTV demos of every game played on the server. You needn't submit a demo. Players accusing a player (cheater or not) of cheating in any manner which makes that concern known to other players will likely be removed from the server. How do I file a complaint against an admin?
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this thread before posting a thread in the forums.
If you've got a problem with how an admin handled a situation on the server, you PM (TG forums, not IRC) the admin who handled it. If you're not satisfied with the admin's reaction to your complaint, you PM (TG forums, not IRC) the game's Game Officer and discuss it for as long as that person will entertain your concerns. If you're not satisfied with the GO, you PM (TG forums, not IRC) Apophis and discuss it for as long as he'll entertain your concerns. If you can't find satisfaction in any of that, you get over it or you leave. At no point during the process do you start a public thread in the forums. Below is a longer version of the above: On Tactical Gamer servers, administrators are chosen to maintain the enjoyable experience that motivates us all to play here. Admins on the server (temp or otherwise) enjoy the burden of authority. What they say goes for the duration of the time in which you're playing on the server. If you must question an admin decision, you are encouraged to PRIVATELY do so once you're off the server. Players are not only invited but encouraged to contact an admin privately (see the admin's forum profile for contact information) about any admin decision with which they take question, but players are not permitted (nor invited, nor encouraged) to question admin decisions while on the server. All of the admins are human and therefore imperfect. But they're also chosen (by invitation only) because they've proven in act that they want what's best for the server and WILL put personal interests aside to preserve that best. They don't get brownie points for ruining your day, and they will seek resolution with you if you give them the chance to address your concerns. If you've got a problem with how a situation was handled, you first privately contact the admin who handled it. Discuss the situation with him and make a good faith effort to resolve the situation without involving anyone else. If you're unable to find resolution speaking only with the admin, you contact the [[Gaming Officers|Game Officer]]. Any popular and active game at Tactical Gamer will have a Game Officer who is responsible for all aspects of that game's gameplay at Tactical Gamer. The GO will not ignore admin complaints which make it to him, but be prepared for a conversation. If you're not satisfied with the Game Officer, you privately contact Apophis, to whom all Game Officers (and of course admins, should it become necessary) answer. Again, state your problem and work toward resolution. If after all of the above the situation is not resolved, you're left to resolve it alone however best you manage. Thank you for following this procedure when you need resolution regarding an admin issue. Last edited by Pokerface; 11-28-2006 at 12:15 PM. |

What unique commands are available to me on the TacticalGamer NS server?
TacticalWiki is a great resource for learning what commands players, supporting members, and temp admins can use when playing on Tactical Gamer's Natural Selection server.

What are Supporting Memberships? What are the advantages of having one?
Certain rights on our servers, including reserved slots, are granted based on the memberships defined in the Tactical Gamer Forums.
If you have access to the Tactical Gamer Member Forums, your reserved access on the NS server is automated and dependent only on your having a valid SteamID listed in your Forum Profile. Removal of the [?] icon (and the accompanying reminders) is contingent upon reading and agreeing to the principles of the TGNS Primer and the rules and philosophies contained therein, in addition adding your SteamID to your forum profile as listed above. If you are not yet a Tactical Gamer Supporting Member, becoming one is your first step to enjoying a reserved slot on the servers. Once you're a supporting member, make sure you have a valid SteamID listed in your Forum Profile. Once the SteamID is in your forum profile, you need only allow the server to change maps once (or maybe twice, in rare cases) for your reserved slot to automatically take effect, at which point you can immediately begin enjoying one of the many benefits of Tactical Gamer Supporting Members. What is the TGNS Primer? Why is it important?
The TGNS Primer is the driving philosophy behind Natural Selection at Tactical Gamer. It is a mission statement of sorts, codifying our beliefs, as well as showcasing our rules and regulations via links contained therein.
We have a mechanism in place whereby players may "sign" the TGNS Primer, acknowledging that they have read our rules and philosophies and agree to abide by them while playing on our server. This added level of accountability helps the administration ensure a better playing experience for all visitors to TGNS, both guests and regulars. Please read the TGNS Primer and its linked content for more information.
