I'm just glad not every NS player is a mad bhopping skulk which can close on you quicker then you can fire 10 bullets heh.
As for dodging, I try to stay Fairly centered in a hallway and choose my direction of jumping as the skulk approaches. I preffer jumping over just strafing as it can give you benefits. 1) you can jump onto railings or other objects which you can then jump off again to get some distance between you and the skulk. 2) if you are bitten in mid air there is a chance you will go flying and once again create some space between yourself and the marine.
Not to mention, jumping + knife can work wonders. One last thing, when you are knifing a res node, something as simple as jumping up and down can also work wonders

If a marine can aim, he should win any straight up fight between himself and a skulk. Hence the reason skulks tend to ambush so much. I'm also not much of a fan of bhopping in general.
And I'll just say the knife is entirely wacked and leave it at that.

knife was more godly in 1.04
i used to drop all my weapons in the beginning and just knife around with friends and usually got like 2 kills before i died :P
it still is fairly decent though, and you should never underestimate it :P

Knife owned in 1.04, It only took three slices to kill a skulk back then, dunno how much it takes now, but i don't think it's 3. On top of that, I think the range of the knife was longer. I miss that knife =(.

What I like doing nowadays is shooting a skulk just enough so that it goes down with one knife afterwards heh.
