    The alien commander is a good idea, provided that the person commanding is competant in all aspects of game play. Often times I have ignored orders from said "commander" because I thought his plan was flawed beyond recovery. Other times however, if the idea is good, I will comply.

    The problem is the commander would have no real authority. So he must rely on the community members to vouch and listen to him or her.

    The aliens to a degree require more teamwork than the marines simply because their tech depends on location, resources and time, where as the marines only rely on resources and time. Therefore in most cases the aliens must prevent the marines from denying them a hive location suitable to build. Teamwork, with a competant commander enhances the odds in the favor of the aliens.
