Bought it from Steam
So I just picked up the game. I can say I'm pretty underwhelmed. I've only played the first mission thus far, but it's definitely not a "simulation". It really feels like Call of Duty 4 mixed in with Battlefield with a pinch of realism and cooperative play. I wasn't really expecting much to be honest, but I figured I'd pick it up anyways. There's only like 4 games running on multiplayer and from the looks of it, there's no dedicated servers.
I'll try my hand at the mission editor later and see what that's like. So far the only use I can really see for the game is the cooperative campaign, which might be a good deal of fun with a couple buddies just messing around.
I wanted to add something. Not having lean is a big deal. It's a pain in the ass having to move to the sides of cover. Luckily, on hardcore (the only difficulty I've played), the AI is laughably inaccurate and unaware. I just sat by a house and opened up on a squad of at least 3 fire teams without a single one shooting at me.
Graphically it's not bad though, certainly not as good as Arma 2 in the graphics department, but the system requirements are low enough that my buddies can play it with me without their computer going up in a flaming ball of glory like in Arma 2.
Anyways, if any of you have any specific questions or something you want me to try, I'll be glad to do it.

I pulled 2.4Mbps, so I've already had an hour of play on it.

What do you think about it? I'd imagine their are a lot of network problems because dedicated servers aren't out yet. Is that true?

Re: Bought it from Steam
To be honest, there didn't seem to be that much network issues. Most of the people didn't have over 150 ping, so that could be a good reason why. However, I will say this. The multiplayer, from what I've seen, is very bad. It feels like if you took your average Call of Duty 4 player, stuck him in a familiar Call of Duty 4 world, then made that world bigger without a very clear objective in front of them.
To give some more detail, it made me join part of a fire team. I decided I'd take up the charge of leading it, because no one else seemed to put any effort to that effect. So I told them, on me, close spacing, we're going to flank around the enemy checkpoint. I start running up towards the sandbags and I stop and turn around. My fire team is scattered all across the damn map. I tell them, get in formation, let's get this done. They just ignore me and keep lone wolfing. I then see some enemies in the woods and I take a few shots to the torso. I move back a little bit and heal myself. I then said, "F it", and just sprayed the woods down with grenade launchers. They shot me a few times, but I just moved back and healed myself again. I ended up with 8 kills, 0 deaths.
I think we ended up losing, but it wasn't really clear how or why. Everyone seemed to be just running around doing their own thing.
I attribute this to the lack of a real server, because it's a lot harder to admin something when it's setup like Grid or Dirt.

Re: Bought it from Steam
Can't fit most games installs on a single non dual layer DVD, so unless it's Valve and in seperated .gcfs I can't really be arsed to seperate the install into multiple disks.
And I don't really have anything else to backup to, other than maybe making a seperate partition and putting them there.

Re: Bought it from Steam
I imagine the AI bugs will get ironed out in time, the AI in ArmA 2 was just as bad out the gate.

Re: Bought it from Steam
Maybe. It didn't really seem like a bug to me though. You know how when you're playing Call of Duty and you flank the enemy and just mow them all down, without a single one picking up on it? It seemed like that. I'm guessing it's due to how hard it is to effectively use cover in this game. There's very few places that have the correct height for crouch covering and without lean, corner cover isn't very effective. The most effective type of cover is cover due to slope of the terrain. This game would be extremely hard if the AI was more aware.
