Starting to boil
It's starting to boil over in the official OFP DR PC forums. Not a lot of happy campers about this game, So far it doesn't even appear close, not much good being said be those who have played it.

Re: Starting to boil
I'm loving it as well. As long as you don't go in expecting a sequel to OPF or something like Arma. It's very much its own game and lends itself well to tactical play. TG is gonna like this one.

Re: Starting to boil
I wonder if CS:S was being reviewed as a new game today, how many would uninstall after 1/2 an hour of play. There's no lean, kit selections are clumsy(not really), there's no commander hud, I have to hit someone four times with an m-16 and there's no weapons sway or iron sights, WhutdoUmean I have to purchase my weapons etc, etc.
Given time and mission development I'm sure we will enjoy this as a tactical shooter as much as any other we run, I'm glad it doesn't look to be a direct competitor for ArmA but it may give the GRAW, COD, CS:S, and BF2 games a run for their money and be a common ground that many of us will enjoy. I still find its not the game but the people I play with that makes any of these games what they are. Now if it'd only get here.lol

Re: Starting to boil
I spent about 3-4 hours last night playing the single player campaign missions. Unfortunately the game is not as polished as I'd like it to be but the foundation is clearly there. It seems to me that the folks at Codemasters were told to get this out the door before MW launches next month.
The view ranges are fantastic and the response of the AI is more realistic than anything I've seen to date. Unfortunately there are also some AI team members that are fence post dumb. While their team mates are scurrying for cover, others are standing 10 feet from me and not firing.
The game needs a bit more polish and some patches and it will be very enjoyable. HOWEVER, if they don't add dedicated server files it'll fall on the heap with Frontlines.“Waiting to be awakened by some unexpected thunderous roar, never dying...the sleeping giant lives and will sleep no more”. - John Seabrook

I don't care much about friendly AI to be totally honest - as playing with others is where it's at on a game like this.
I haven't played TvT yet, so I can't comment on that, but... yeah having dedicated server files does seem like a must-have.

Re: Starting to boil
bingo... it's tricky because the game is hitting a spot in the market where there isn't currently a title. On the one side, some hardcore ArmAII players are bitching because it's not realistic/detailed/whatever enough. Then on the other hand, you have the competition/clan crowd from CoD/BFx that could care less about the coop/missions - they're bitching about the minimal "MP" support.

It seems like people that went into it with an open mind are really enjoying it for what it is. (<-- also a good way to deal with life in general btw
)

Re: Starting to boil
I love how people can claim that the game looks like crap graphically. To me it looks amazing. Unlimited draw distance with artillery and firefights would kill any other game. It may not be crysis but it's not original OFP either. Some people just want everything. It really reminds me of the of original Ghost Recon before Ubi fubar'd it, which is good because that was a great game.

The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.

Yeah, I hear you about the graphics - I haven't played crysis (how many people have a rig that can run that with all the candy turned on), but this is a beautiful game... I saw at least 3-4 scenes last night that I would frame and hang on my wall
(if only I figured out the screen-shot key
)

Re: Starting to boil
I have views about the game that are preventing me from purchasing it, but I won't rain on anyone's parade in a new game's budding community. There's enough e-drama surrounding the game itself without adding my two cents to the dogpile.

Re: Starting to boil
Therein lies the problem. Codemasters have been making a very big song and dance these last few months about how it IS an ArmA2 replacement and IS very realistic and like the original OFP.
If they'd simply called the game 'Dragon Rising' everyone would love it as it's an arcadey style game that anyone can appreciate. But they didn't hence the hoards of pissed off realism and ArmA2/OFP fans.

Re: Starting to boil
It's not arcadey. Quit calling it that, and it's not ultra-sim either.

Re: Starting to boil
I am not disappointed because I had no real expectations. I am still learning my way around the game and i have enjoyed it so far because it is new. Will I play it much after the single player missions,probably not. Do I dislike it, not really. Its like any fps, when ive completed it , off it goes to my ever growing pile of so so games.
