100 players would definitely be off the chain. I've been wondering about that myself. I'm excited to see what comes of this. Just a bit disappointed its not already here.

Looks more like it'd be made for player-lead fire teams (or understrength squads) that are filled up with bots. Non the less - if doable - it ought to give some quite big fights

Heck yeah! There was always speculation (and I think it may have actually been possible, but no-one did it) that ArmA would be able to host up to 124 players on a server. That would make for some epic TvT action!

I remember the articles mentioning the scale of the games that would be possible when I first started tracking this release. I wish I had the bookmarks still. It'd be incredible to see a game of this nature play more like a MMO.

a bit further speculation is that TG will host 200 player games in massive epic battles !

If it's possible to get stable with more than 64 players, vehicles and join in progress with stable servers, I think has huge potential and definitely warrant mod development.... We shall see how it goes with updates..

Its about time that Game developers start breaking the 64 player limit and move onto something alot bigger. Mag will support 256 players at one time on one map, However Mag looks far more like Vbf2 than a tactical shooter.

Largest ArmA2 public server population I've seen is 100 players involved in BF2-like TvT on DAO Berzerk server (50 vs 50). The server is full every evening, unfortunately it's Euro based (kicks for pings > 150ms), has VoIP disabled and 3rd person view enabled.
However it is surprisingly stable, considering most of the fights happen in the same areas and resonably fun, although a bit too arcade for me (hate how they have very loose kit restrictions, giving an ACOG/PSO to everyone, no armor lasts more than a couple minutes with Javelins freely available and there's no squad system - well, one exists, but it's way too cumbersome to use and almost everyone is ungrouped)The most dangerous thing on a battlefield is an officer with a map.

Well, they may have also planned for the possibility that 20 live players each commanded its own fireteam of AI soldiers.

The only thing is, it wont be like all the other Run-n-gun games such as CoD or 2142. This will be very tactical and even with more than 50 people playing on a HUGE map like skira island, there will be some huge shootouts in the open valley from time to time during the game. Plus other recon teams taking out people silently/undetected and leave unnoticed
