Looks like no dedicated servers :(
Straight from the horses mouth:
"Dedicated servers you say?
I can assure you we have not been ignoring you, we have been dealing with issues on a priority basis and obviously the connection issues amongst other things have been top priority over the last 120 hours.
I hear the calls but cannot promise anything at this stage, its not under development right now. More news if that changes
Sion "
Fittingly he's posting under "WaftyBuzz" which is exactly what he must have been when he decided to not include and dedicated server support.

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
what i dont understand is how you can even release a game without dedicated server support? or even release something like that in the first couple patches.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
I guess it serves me right. I really had my hopes up that this game would be the next great tac shooter ala Ghost Recon. I paid WAAAY to much attention to this pre release and they make this insanely stupid decision.
It's really a shame, and I'm just terribly dissappointed. They could have sold me at least a couple of expansions. Screw Codemasters, I'm done with their games.“Waiting to be awakened by some unexpected thunderous roar, never dying...the sleeping giant lives and will sleep no more”. - John Seabrook

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
This game will die on the vine without them and without opening it up to modders you will find the pc version in the crap game bins for the Chrismas shoppers

Guys... the game has been out a week... give it some time. I would be surprised if they don't provide dedicate servers. It isn't always up to the developer what is released when. Sometimes the publishers do more pushing.

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
At least he didn't say that it was never going to happen. I can understand where he is coming from though. Up to this point they have been working on the DLC from the time the game went gold and now they are also working on a patch. Those should be their priorities.. fixing what is breaking the game and releasing more content that was already under development. After those two tasks are complete in the next few weeks they can start to do more. They know what we want and it is in their best interest as a company to listen to the fans.
TBH it would not suprise me if the DLC is more coop missions/campaign, more weapons and more mission creation resources. After playing TvT it seems like it more of a last minute thing that they threw together to attempt to appease the player base, but the real spit shine and polish is in the coop. All their interview and previews focused heavily on the coop element so it's fair to assume that fleshing out the tvt modes will not come untill later DLC's.
Just my $.02

The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.

Surprising, but I respect Sion's honesty in the announcement.

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
The dedicated server files aren't even in the development pipeline. Multiplayer may die before they move SADS files out the door.
Personally, I don't think this genre lends itself well to extremely small scale COOP. The scale is fine in RB6 and SWAT style games, but not a large scale military combat game.
It's obvious their focus was on the console experience.

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
What's possibly a higher priority than dedicated servers? A lot of the connection problems/lag etc would be eliminated if there were deds .

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
So true.
If anyone of you visits CM 's DR forum, you should know how much demand there is for dedicated servers. The game even sais on the box 'best played on dedicated servers'... seriously. This should be priority number one and if they wait any longer, this game will die sooner than soon and people will leave to other games.
If they don't release the files in the future, CM and the OFP series are done with (at least for PC).

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
I definitely don't have a problem with them fixing the current bugs before moving development resources onto new content development (Stand Alone Dedicated Servers). Having SADS wouldn't be much use if the menu/server-browser was still laggy as hell... not to mention the other in-game bugs like hit-detection.
Believe me, nobody's looking for a 'home' server more than me
That being said, not having it isn't the end of the world... The game has a lot of content now that we can enjoy.
Keep an eye out - a couple of the admins are organizing a series of weekly scheduled 'mini-scrim' type events... should be a lot of fun! The MP mode offers so many different options and so much variety. We can control player count, number of AI, respawn rules, and HUD/difficulty... we've got plenty to keep us busy for a few months at least!

Re: Looks like no dedicated servers :(
well IMO... if we were just going to do 4 player co-op over and over, and that would be a good thing...then IMO dedicated server software wouldn't really be needed, or a priority... most broadband connections can handle hosting a 4 player co-op...
BUT... if were ever going to move to bigger and better things like force on force, then dedicated server software is a MUST, and if they don't release it soon... you'll see this game start fading into the background of other new releases.
again IMO.Magnum
