    Securing the Beachhead?

Okay it's been a while since I posted but this is out of frustration.

I'm playing the missing where you land on the beach, take out the AT guys to protect the AAVP's. So you all know as the mission continues, I take out the spotters, AA in the town, etc. I set up my defense for the counterattack and fall back to a defensive position. However, when I fall back when ordered to do so, I fail the mission because I failed to secure the beachhead, I'm stumped. I've played the mission twice and it's getting me frustrated.

    Any help is most appreciated........

The trick is to watch only the western part of the town. As long as you hold that the stop the PLA from flanking along the coast to the west the AI should hold their own on the east side. I usually hole up in the small 2 story house on the road next to the fixed MG nest. Send one AI to man the MG, the second to watch the western flank, and your 3rd to watch SE of the MG nest. The AAVP should engage most of the infantry.

The only time you would be told to fall back is if they eastern line breaks and the PLA get through. I"m not sure but I think it's scripted to be dependent on the players progress on the south west side of town.

The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.

Fiddlestx pretty much said it all, you just have to hold your ground and keep pummeling the enemy with the MG. That's how I got through (after a few re-starts).

Your commander marks an area for you to protect, it's near the two-storey building, next to the MG/sandbag emplacement and the one-storey building. My guess is that you need to stay near that area to 'hold' the village.

See, we did this mission differently. We "carjacked" one of the AAVP's and used that for the mission.

Ya, the others have it right, the AI handles keeping the left side of the road clear pretty well, you just have to keep the right side of the road clear, which is far easier using an AAVP. (and more fun!)

We did it at the fixed MG and building as well that the commander ordered but you have to check your map constantly since you start getting attacked from all directions.
The AI get pretty sneaky coming up the beach side of the road in cover to flank.

I was swarmed from the hills in SE and my AI fled.

    Real pain on hardcore.

It took me a few times to pass this one also. I placed my squad to defend the sandbags at the MG.. They dont use the MG, but they use the cover. I covered the right side of the road to keep them from coming from the beach side. Of course I had to fall back to the cross roads to help the north flank. It also makes a huge difference if you can find and pick up an enemy marksman rifle as a second weapon.. I used all ten clips I found off the squad in the trees to defend and my original weapon plus ammo from one of my squad. I was down to the last clip and one friendly AI when I finally completed it.

I am stuck on keeping the pilot and co-pilot alive for extraction.

The co-pilot died on that mission ('follow me' means follow me, silly AI), but I got the pilot out and completed all the secondary objectives. It's only if they both die that you lose.
