A strange edit to the wording...unfortunate in any event.

After liaising with the dev team, it will not be possible to implement standalone dedicated servers post-launch for the game.

I am disappointed also, but there are many of us that have been having fun playing within our friends list or connecting on TS most nights to play missions or MP. Dedicated server files is a big let down but we will continue to make our own fun. The whole dedicated server/PC game vs console is a troubling trend in the industry. Looks like game developers are not interested in having us play 2-3+ years on one title purchase like we did for BF2 and others.

Indeed... and now that MW2 is the best selling game ever, even after dropping dedicated servers, it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon. 200000 out of 7 million people requesting dedicated servers... and that 's just a few days after release.

Well, up to PR 1.5 then .

Like we didn't see this coming... The complete silence on the subject despite loads of threads on the CM forums strongly pointed towards this. Imho it was just a matter of time.

    Re: No dedicated servers.

I think the term is "Planned Obsolescence" but I have about 45 fps games and variants. I will always make hard drive space for a game worth maintaining but to kill a title after a brief run so that you can market additional installments or content will not find their way onto my computers, one of the things I find disconcerting with the present development. The game producers are cutting the legs out from under their own games and it can only be to shorten the cycle.

I will continue to play this one only as long as I can find other Tactical Gamers who play.

Based on last night, I think that Templar free roam map will keep us busy for a while.

    Re: No dedicated servers.

I wouldn't have a problem with this had they not marketed the game to have dedicated servers. I still would have purchased it, but at least then I wouldn't feel like I've gotten punked out of $40. Thankfully the gameplay is still sweet and the positive side is that for the most part the only guys left playing are mature gamers, so that's good. That and the infils with no respawns have been a lot fun too, which is what a lot of servers are running now. When the game was crowded I could never find any servers running no respawn.

Before anyone goes uninstalling, let's make this sunday MP event happen! It will be on a fast computer with a fast connection - as good as if it was on a dedicated server. I haven't played a real quality MP game yet - and I want to get SOME value for my money!!

    Re: No dedicated servers.

Oh great. Just great. So I spent $40 on it hoping to be able to play on a dedicated server. God, I'm already tired of the 18/20 disconnects I get in MW2 due to the craptastic matchmaking service that's literally reminiscent of the year 2000. *pouts some more*
