AAR: TG "Get Tactical" OFPDR Sunday Community Event
Thanks to everyone who signed up for the community event today and those who came out as reserves.
It turned out to be a lot of fun because we were able to play the game like we wanted to...the TG way and I had a blast.
Big thank you to Miles for hosting. The games ran perfectly.
Also, thanks to all the FTLs who stepped up, especially Bastard and Aumen1 as the anchors for each team. Excellent communication and coordination with the rest of us.
Here is a brief AAR just from my POV. Sure there are other stories to tell.
Round 1 Infiltration - On Home Soil (Sunburn Launcher)
I was on US attack force. Aumen had all FT's run the ridge on the East side of the map all the way North so we could swing SW and attack. Visual spotting confirmed the PLA was looking in different directions from out approach so we remained stealth. As we took a position NE of the missile, a hold fire order was missed (possibly language barrier) and the PLA were alerted to our position.
Immediately the PLA started flanking us as we pressed in. We started taking heavy casualties so the time came to move or die. Miles FT held overwatch for us as we moved in. I approached the target from the East wall and Aumen and another player moved in from the South entrance. I was able to catch 2 PLA guards inside the wall and gave the "all clear" for Aumen to set the charges. BLAM. Turned out better than I thought it would.

Round 2 Infiltration - White Fang
I was on US attacking force. Aumen gave us the order to rally to a point Northeast of the White Fang complex. Miles took the Sniper team to a position on the East side. We moved across the northern part of the road and were met with a PLA attack vehicle. Once that engagement finished we turned South so we were on the Northwest side of the White Fang complex moving through the rolling hills and brush for cover. As we pressed in the PLA were alerted to our attack angle and we started to get eaten up fast. It got ugly.
Again, it was time to press as the PLA seemed to really outnumber us. I noticed at one point a gap open up in the defenses on the NW side of the buildings. I sprinted with my AI and held up at the main entrance. I was spotted and was being hunted my the enemy. Just as I tried to heal, someone came around the corner, caught me with a pack in my hand and killed me. "Medic"..."Medic"...I cried. One of my AI tried to heal me and was killed. "Medic!"...and just before I should have died, an AI healed me after the enemy had left me for dead. The second I popped up I fumbled for a mortar smoke barrage and ran for cover to the building. The smoke was so dense I could not see anything. I dropped C4 and found the stairs up to the ammo room. I saw one PLA guard that I was able to kill. Entered the room expecting another, but nobody there. I realized my charge was downstairs and would not set another, so I went to the corner of the building and BLAM. Phew...that was real close.

Round 3 Annihilation- Bridge Dusk
I was PLA on this one. For me, this round should have been called "how to get eaten alive by a sniper no matter where you hid". We tried to move South and cross on the Western side, no go. Went East, no go. Decided to pile into the middle and let the grenade launcher rip and just hunkered down. I will pinned down most of that time, so the map turned into a real meat grinder. Not much more to say than, whew, glad that was over.

Round 4 Annihilation - SF Docks Night
This map has a big chokepoint right in the middle as well as high ground. No matter what side you are on, do not get pinned in the middle. You always have access to the high ground or water from the base so it is a matter of positioning. I was PLA and went sniper. I focused on different hillside positions to provide overwatch for the FT's on the ground. This one turned out to be an in your face stalemate with each side just trading kills. The chokepoint got filled from each direction and it became the bottom of the grinder. Both teams tried flanking and there was a limited water assault, but this pretty much became head to head firefights.

Thanks again to all that played. OFPDR has been great for me because I have been able to play it with the guys I always play with as well as make some new friends from different parts of TG. All excellent players with a lot to contribute to the community. Good times.Last edited by jb4; 11-16-2009 at 12:26 AM. Reason: sp

Re: AAR: TG "Get Tactical" OFPDR Sunday Community Event
For me that last picture says it all.
There were reps from five (5) IHS. We had members from the 12th,13th.19th, 21st, and 41st. Sadly, Rock showed up a little late or the E1st would have been represented as well. Playing this game with TG members from across the gaming spectrum reminds me of what brought me to TG.

Hey guys, I have a lot of video that I took. I just haven't had the time to sort through it, cut out the good parts, and post it yet. But I will!

Wow guys what a blast that was! JB great write-up - tks! The first round was good fun, I really hoped that they did not expect us to come in from behind them and for the most part it worked out real nice. The snipers Miles and Paint kept an awesome overwatch calling out targets while I moved in behind JB who led an awesome assault.
Cheers all,
Aumen
