New OFP coming... just FYI...
Lets hope they learned from the last screw ups... but maybe they don't want games lasting years...
Codemasters’ SVP of production Jame MacDonald has told Develop that new iterations of Race Driver: Grid and Operation Flashpoint are in development.
The games are currently in development at the company’s Southam studio alongside DiRT 3.
“We’ve got a major launch with F1 coming up in September and developed at our Birmingham studio,” said MacDonald, “and we hope to draw new IP from there. Our Guildford studio is working hard on Bodycount, and we will be looking to to take that franchise further and further with the addition of more IP.
“In Southam it’s full steam ahead with the next iteration in our Flashpoint series, as well as the next Dirt and Grid. It’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out.”
The original Race Driver: Grid launched in 2008 for PS3, 360, PC and DS, while the last Operation Flashpoint, Dragon Rising, released last year for PS3, 360 and PC.

Pretty ballsy on Codemaster's part to think that they have a viable franchise there. Did I miss something, or were the XBOX/PS3 releases wildly successful?

Re: New OFP coming... just FYI...
Thx for the news Magnum. From the little I've read the console versions of the game have done better then the PC version. I hope they devote more resources to the PC this time instead of cutting. This has a lot of potential so I'm glad to hear they are going to give it another shot. A larger tether, more than 4 players on coop, vegetation actually hiding you, but even more so the ability to customize the pc game & run dedicated servers....the wish list is huge but if Codemasters look like they are going to support a PC community & build the ability to do so into the next code....BINGO! Got big hopes for it.

Re: New OFP coming... just FYI...
I was very disappointed with OFP
R on Xbox 360. I was so hyped for it. Not having a decent PC at the time and never playing the ArmA series, I was wanting for a follow up to the original OFP. Hopefully they will put the PC as the lead platform this time around, and though I love my Xbox 360, they should probably forgo consoles. Can you imagine trying to play ArmA on the Xbox 360? Sure, it would look awesome at all times, but a controller just doesn't do it justice.

Re: New OFP coming... just FYI...
New forums for Operation Flashpoint: Red River have been opened on the Codemasters forums. Looks like no PvP but expanded coop modes. Not a lot of information yet but a picture is piecing together of what it may be like. Helocopters may only be piloted by AI so don't know if this will apply to jeeps/tanks.

Very much agree with Jagrock about the controls sometimes in DR but then it was the radial menu system that really sold me on DR being user friendly.

Video of interview at gamespot.com.
It is looking like the campaign will be 4 player coop with join in progress. There will be other available modes which may mean more than 4 is possible. It is looking pretty exciting.

Re: New OFP coming... just FYI...
I just wish Bohemia would overhaul their engine. It's too bad really that Codemasters couldn't bring something to the table. No joystick support, lean, free-look and only four players for co-op? Seriously? Big let down.
Why bother with a PC version if they're gimping it like that?

Re: New OFP coming... just FYI...
They are concentrating on the COOP 4 person immersive experience. They are taking a big bite to chew already for a small team. More urban engagements, improved AI, it does look they are doing a good job of putting the focus to make this a great 4 player game. I too wish for more players but this title stands a good chance of bringing a lot of features that will keep a balance between crisp smooth action & sim-like immersion.
I haven't seen anything official about no lean, no free-look....might have missed it. I am getting Arma2 Combined Operations for the multiplayer now for sure though. As soon as I can afford it. By 2011 maybe I can afford Red River too.

Re: New OFP coming... just FYI...
Alright, I was searching for optimism...then they announced no Mission Editor. So the campaign is what you get & maybe the DLC later. Maybe they will include a ME in a DLC. If so I will revisit a look at OFP: Red River. Until then...

Re: New OFP coming... just FYI...
It's obvious that Codemaster are developing this mainly for the consoles, with the PC market being an afterthought. I'm not going to buy this, I was already burned by Dragon Rising, a game that had potential.

Now with 200% more content!

Re: New OFP coming... just FYI...
all the bugs and no dedi servers after two weeks of OFP: DR already threw me off the OFP bandwagon. I might as well play some L4D2 instead of this new game.

New trailer with a focus on the story line but with a fair amount of game play. It's China again.
