Guide for installing 2 functioning OFP Installs

I posted this in another thread but here is the guide in its own. I have done it. Here's how....

First: I Do NOT take any responsibility for any damage you may do to your machine or your flashpoint install. This involves editing the registry and can kill your OS if you do not know what you are doing.
That said....here ya go.

Notice: This works best in Windows XP, If you use Windows 2000 you will have to reboot after each switch between your installs.

1. To preserve your current install do the following:

a. Go the your start menu, click run, type cmd
b. Type regedit
c. Now, here is the important part. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters, right click Codemasters and select export from the menu. Now save this to your desktop (or wherever it is easily accessible) with the name OFP_install_1 or something else to distinguish this as your first install. Now right click Codemasters again and choose delete, when it prompts you to verify you are sure, click yes.

2. This is where we install the second install of OFP:

a. Run through the install of Flashpoint (using another folder on your drive, or another drive, example C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint2), then install Resistance, and patch to 1.96.
b. Now right click that OFP_install_1.reg file we exported from the registry earlier and select copy. Then right click anywhere on the desktop (or the same folder if you saved it elsewhere) and select paste. Now go ahead and rename the copy OFP_install_2.
c. Now right click the OFP_install_2 file we just got done renaming and select edit. Within this file you will see the path to your old install, mine looks like this:
Quote:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters\Flashpoint Resistance]
"MAIN"="E:\\Game Files\\Codemasters\\OperationFlashpoint"
"KEY"=hex:5b,33,fd,78,8e,75,4e,68,27,a4,db,00,7c,2 0,59

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint]
"MAIN"="E:\\Game Files\\Codemasters\\OperationFlashpoint"
"KEY"=hex:09,f1,3d,7b,48,ed,d6,8a,d7,20,85,07,8a,3 b,15
Simply edit the paths for both MAIN keys to reflect your new install path.
Example:
Quote:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters\Flashpoint Resistance]
"MAIN"="E:\\Game Files\\Codemasters\\OperationFlashpoint2"
"KEY"=hex:5b,33,fd,78,8e,75,4e,68,27,a4,db,00,7c,2 0,59

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint]
"MAIN"="E:\\Game Files\\Codemasters\\OperationFlashpoint2"
"KEY"=hex:09,f1,3d,7b,48,ed,d6,8a,d7,20,85,07,8a,3 b,15
Now just save the file.
e. Now you will need to create shortcuts to both your installs. For me, I now have shortcuts on my desktop pointing to:
E:\Game Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTRE SISTANCE.EXE
E:\Game Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint2\FLASHPOINTR ESISTANCE.EXE
If you use Kegetys' launcher you will have to point to the correct executable for the install you want to run every time you switch it up.
f. Now MOST IMPORTANT! To switch between installs, simply double click the OFP_install_1 file on your desktop to activate the original install. Every time you will get a prompt asking you if you want to add the information to the registry, click Yes and Yes again for the notification that it was successfully added. Then run the shortcut pointing to the Resistance Executable for the first install. To switch to the second install, double click the OFP_install_2 file, follow the same steps and run the shortcut for the resitance executable for the second install.
Also, when you install mods, missions and addons, just make sure you install them to the right directory. For me I think I will keep all my mods on my second install, and keep the first install for clean single player with maybe only some FFUR.

It is kind of a pain to setup if you dont know what you are doing, but once its setup its just an extra few clicks. Remember if you are unsure which install is active, you can just double click the registry file for the corresponding install to be safe. I hope this guide is user-friendly enough. Let me know how it works out for you. If you have any problems or suggestions, please reply or send a PM.
