Weird weapons of WWII
Anyone remember playing the Secret Weapons expansion for Battlefield 1942? (It was my favorite. Alas, few others liked it.)
Here's a page full of odd weapons from that era:

Landkreuze Ratte beats anything hands down. That and a war Zeppelin is all I need...

Yup, that was actually used by us Canadians. It was released from the Lancaster. And it skipped on the water to eventually hit and take out a dam. I was like DANNNG! lol Learned this last year.

Auuhh... sensationalism FTW? That's VAR, which was the precursor to VOR, which was the precursor to TACAN. Not GPS.

Re: Weird weapons of WWII
Well the bouncing bomb concept was nothing new - it was extremely hard and dangerous to do, as it was possible for the bomb to hit the aircraft that dropped it, but it was called 'skip bombing'. The bouncing bomb made it easier to do.
The reason they were needed to 'skip' was because in the water leading up to a dam, they would fill with nets and obstructions to stop just such an assault.

Gotta love fireing a 7000 pound shell 30 miles! I can only imagine what that would sound like and the shockwave it made.
