Low flying

I'm sure we have another photo thread about this, but couldn't find it. If someone turns it up, perhaps we can merge the threads.

From http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worl....html?ITO=1490

Quote:
The fighter/bomber streaked past an apartment block on the banks of the Detroit River at the weekend.

It was part of a tactical demonstration fly-past to open a speedboat race in the North American city.

Officials waived rules to allow the Navy flyers to swoop under 100ft along the waterway.

Re: Low flying

That man must be feeling a mixture of 'what the hell?' 'Oh noes!' and 'Wow!'

And probably a little 'I need to go clean myself' from how close that thing looks, and it doesn't seem that he knows it was coming.

LOL!

It must have been quite a sight tho and sound for that matter. Its not everyday you get a fighter jet flying so close to your balcony you could almost reach out and touch it.

Re: Low flying

Wingspan of an F18 (varies with series) is about 40 feet.

http://www.uscost.net/aircraftcharac...s/Wingspan.htm

Based on the person in the frame, I'm guessing the floor separation of that complex is 10 feet, so about 30 feet between the wingtips at the apartment complex. Alas, we don't know the distance from the camera, but I'd guess it's a very long telephoto shot, allowing the two objects to appear close together when they're not.
