Jeevz recommended this PC game to me... not much of a space shooter kinda guy... but 20 bucks... I've blown a lot more on more crappy'er games... so I gave it a shot, and pretty damn cool... still getting use to the zero gravity movement, but very nice looking and a good team tactical shooter... MP only, but fun...and a nice change of pace and scenery.
My Q. Would their be recoil in space? Would a gas operated, magazine fed weapon even shoot in space? And if it did/does how far would the bullets go and what penetration would they have? oh well, just wondering.

There would be recoil, yes. I think a normal weapon would work, as no external oxygen is needed (the bullet is inside a sealed metal case), although apparently the weapon would not fire if it was very cold. The bullets would keep going at the same velocity until they hit something, and there would be little in the way of bullet drop (negligible gravity, from nearby planets and space debris). They would have the same penetration as they would firing at something close to the end of the barrel (unless they were firing through a lot of space dust).
Also, since this is a gaming forum, I'd better mention it . Shattered Horizon looks awesome!

Some tips for people getting into this:
-You have directional controls on both horizontal and vertical axes. Make use of them. A lot of people have trouble tracking players who arent just strafing left and right.
-Holding right click (default) and rotating your mouse adjusts your orientation (meaning you can rotate horizontally and vertically).
-Running with the previous tip: you can use the downward movement key or the rotate to surface key and latch to ANY surface in the game. If you see a surge of enemies continuously coming through a doorway, try latching to the roof! I've done this with great success.
-You have three kinds of grenades. Ice, which creates a vision and radar obscuring cloud of ice, which you can use offensively or defensively, EMP, which shuts down enemy suits, only allowing them very minor movements until their suit reboots (they can still shoot at you!) and Concussive grenades, which can be used to blast enemies off into space. You have 5 total grenades, and you can use these 5 in any combination you want. Be situationally aware and use nades appropriately.
-Holding the fire grenade button (grenades are launched outward like projectiles) causes them to fly farther. You can use this for bank shots off of walls quite effectively.
-Latching to a solid surface will increase your accuracy by almost double what it is when floating around.
-Flying around constanly gives you away. Each team's suit jets emit a glow. Latching to a surface can render you mostly invisible to passing foes.
-Shutting down your suit limits your movement and takes away your radar. But under the right circumstances, this tactic can yield you huge numbers of kills.
-There are two ways to get bonus points: headshots and tankshots.

Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
