Re: Do you want to play this game?
The addition of a commander mode will only help if someone steps up/is selected to be commander and people pay attention to his or her commands. In JO, e.g., there are some features to support command and control but no-one ever uses them.
Anyway, we'll see with BF2. I predict mindless eye candy.

Re: Do you want to play this game?
Take just about any game on a public server and you will have deathmatch. It will take a strong presence by TG and strong admins to make the server anything but.

Re: Do you want to play this game?
If the commander role is enabled on the server, I believe it will be vital to have it filled. The commander is responsible for dispersing ammo, artillery strikes, etc. I don't remember exactly where I saw it, but there was a list of the commander abilities.

I've tried to figure out the same thing, for different reasons, with CounterStrike and multiple other games if you're not playing at TG...

Re: Do you want to play this game?
Fortunately, this is the type of game that Tactical Gamer has been able to do really well with. Proper chain of command, standard operating procedures and communication overcomes an awful lot.

Re: Do you want to play this game?
If you cant play it on TG, then it just isnt worth playing at all.
I know how iroic that sounds, since the game I'm currently playing isnt being hosted on TG.. but you're just gonna have to figure that out for youselves.

Re: Do you want to play this game?
Well put.. I like games that allow for more diversity in tactics and strategy through the use of the larger maps. Games like NS and CS are so confined and restricted. Defense of an objective is usually watching a couple doors or elevators in the smaller games and usually only consist of a guy standing there with a gun. Games like BF and JO require a lot more teamwork and coordination as you need to be prepared for infantry, air, mechanized or naval assaults and be prepared to deal with them all.

Re: Do you want to play this game?
I was surprised by the lack of support DC received here from the NS crowd. There was a lot of teamwork possibility in it, and I suppose that bf2 is only going to enhance that.

Heh... we're cheap bastards, Tempus, don't forget that. We play a game that almost everyone and their mom has, and use a free mod for it.

Re: Do you want to play this game?
Well, Desert Combat never came close to looking that good, but it's the changes to the actual game that I'm looking forward to. I'm hoping that the new strategic commander's position will attract some of the NS players. I'd really like to see more overlap between the different sub-communities here, and this looks like the game to do it.

OK, I won't spam every single BF2 thread this time, but here's the trailer that was shown at BFCon in that larger video: http://media.pc.ign.com/media/677/677882/vids_1.html

They're supposedly in-game screenshots. Have you watched the latest video? It's in-game video cap, and it looks fantastic!
