Re: Started to do some photoshopping
The first one looks like that was about 10 minutes with the magentic lasso, which isn't exacly the most advance dthing Photoshop has

The second one looks like a drawing or something. Those work better on a piece of paper than in a photo manipulation program, but to each his own.|TG-Irr|TychoCelchuuu

That's some nice constructive criticism...

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
Yeah your right the first one was a bunch of masking basically, the second one was actually "rotoscoped" if you know what that is.

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
Rotoscoping is used for animation; in that case I wouldn't bother with the details like the little hairs and stuff that you've added in that picture. Also, I can't tell if it's the compression or the colors, but the hair has some odd stuff around the sides, and there's also a bit of it in the eyebrows. And the shadow on the left eye (his right eye) isn't completely filled in.

Lol thanks cing. Yeah, after i pulled up the full 25mb picture i realized that, thats just compression. Wich kinda sucks... compression kills.

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
Thanks Xink, really started reading up on the theory of photography, but WOW its very complicated. ISO-values, Shutterspeed, White-balance, composition, rule of thirds, colourbalance, etc.........so much more than just point and shoot with a compact camera......but a lot of fun.

The first picture would be nicer if you would use a maskinglayer instead.
As stated I'm just starting of on photoshop so maybe not the best person to criticise, but just my 2 cents.

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
Since when is photoshop not used for drawing? There are quite a few people who make their living illustrating with photoshop.

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
You'll notice those are the "CG Society" forums. People only post their CG work there. I can certify for you that 99% of those people can draw in real life. Go to any art forum, anywhere on the Internet, and ask if you should learn to draw in Photoshop, or in real life. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is goign to tell you to learn to draw before you mess around with Photoshop. Apply to any computer art program in college, and they will ask you to have a traditional art background.

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
I don't see you mentioning anything about learning to draw there. You simply stated that drawing works better on paper than in photoshop. And I can certify that 87.4% of all people who draw in photoshop prefer it to drawing on paper. Don't worry, I already checked the entire internet and interviewed every artist who ever lived, so I can guarantee that figure is accurate.

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
Didn't Hayes tell you that he's a professional artist for DC Comics? Just because he's new to Photoshop doesn't mean that he can't draw...

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
I didn't realize that the picture was an attempt at rotoscoping; you'll notice my criticisms of it point out details that would be more trouble than they are worth in an animation, so I figured he was using Photoshop as a substitute for traditional drawing techniques. Now that I know it was an actual effect he was going for, and not just a drawing he did, I have modified my criticism appropriately. I'm doing the best I can to help him, and as far as I can tell he doesn't mind, so unless a post has no helpful content (like Bodo's or my response to him) I can't see why you would delete it.

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
Yeah I used a mouse, if I had the cash I would love a wacom tablet. Does anyone here have one?
EDIT: Actually Cing, im not terribly bad at PS, these were done in "Fireworks" as just some fun test photos. I did use a mask for the first one, but could not seem to perfect it.

Re: Started to do some photoshopping
I have, was the best thing I bought in a long time. Just a small one (A6) but it does the job. Makes controling photoshop so much easier as well as being good to prevent me from getting RSI in my wrist (starting to get the first symptons).

With the mask its just a matter of painting it over with the other colour.
Did I read I correct your doing some drawing for comics? If so, can you post some of your work? Very interested in what other people can came up with.
Take care,
