Imo it's either a wolf, a really big brown recluse, or a southern house spider (which looks like a really big brown recluse but doesn't tend to bite)

Man, I just wasted about an hour browsing that "spiderzrule" website...I don't even like spiders, but I couldn't stop clicking links and viewing images of the little beasts!

If that is a huntsman, the size you quoted as being 3 inches or so, is really small. I remember having huntsmen in my apartment in Australia, they were usually the size of my palm or so.

Also I didn't know huntsmen lived outside Australia.

Where I grew up In South Africa, these were the evil arachnid of note. Their favorite trick was to sit on the back side of your towel on the towel rack in the bathroom, so that when you pulled your towel off the rack, the spider would be launched at you. I still have very vivid memories of my stepfather running screaming down the hallway after being accosted by a 8 cm long spider (thats about 3.3 inches body length) after a shower.

Mostly harmless but they certainly inspire all kinds of primal fear in us (mostly).

Yeah, that's the kind of spider that I kept as a pet when I lived in Arizona.

    You're all crazy.
    ...

Spiders and house centipedes....I won't even approach them w/out shoes on because they move so damn fast, I'm afraid they'll bite my toes off if i try to smack them w/ the newspaper.

I think it'sa Brown Recluse (SP?). If it is you're lucky it didnt bite you, I hear they're like getting bit by a snake, I had a friend who took 2 bites in the kneecap and had to sue crutches for several months.
