This is the problem with the TW series...they seem too eager to change the things that make the game fun. Every year you have to deal with some new confounded technique that adds NOTHING to gameplay...<shrug>...I'm just tired of it.

I'm on the fence whether to get it or not. Right now, I play the PS2 - 2004 version occasionally. I read that 2008 was a disaster so I didn't even look into it. I recently d/l'd the demo for 2009 and, like you said, some things I liked, some I wasn't so keen on.
