Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
I'm sure the quality varies and some brands are better than others, but to be on the safe side, it's probably best to go with a decent brand name. My cousin picked up some generic cable and it didn't look as good as what my setup did. He went and bought the same Sony cable I got and it looks fine. Your results may vary, but I wouldn't take the chance since the whole point of HDMI cables is to get the best sound and picture quality.

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
wait wtf? HDMI is to play PS3 on HDTVs yes? So Sony isnt even creating their own products to let you plug PS3 into HDTV let alone not putting a HD cable in with the purchase?
Also was talkin to my dad about tradin out the 360 for a PS3 and mentioned the blu ray, blu rays are compatible with all HDTVs arent they?

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
It comes with either component cables or basic RCA cables. I can't remember which since I didn't really look at them as I knew from a friend to get a HDMI cable when I bought it. Due to my particular setup and blend of brands in my entertainment system, I also ended up getting an optical cable to run the sound to my surround receiver. I assume the other cables are to fit a wider range of TV owners.
Bluray is just an information storage format. It's compatible with just about any TV, since it's up to the PS3 to decode it, but will only show it's true abilities on a HDTV and high quality sound system.

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
Alright thought so about the blu ray..
So you do need to buy seperate HDTV cables for the PS3 and whats up with the sound thing?

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
Depending on how your system is setup, you can either run the sound and video out of the PS3 with any of the cables and into the TV or you can run the video into the TV, and then sound into a surround sound receiver separately as I have done. There are a million ways to do it, and it all depends on the equipment you have and your personal preferences. If you only have a TV and no surround sound or home theater receiver, then you can run both the audio and video into your TV with an HDMI cable and have no problems. I do highly recommend surround sound, if you don't have it already, as it really wakes up the games and movies. I'm really of the mind that with my HDTV and DTS ready surround sound, that my movie experience is better here at home than if I would go to the theater.
Anyway, what cables you use and how you hook them up can vary wildly but the basics are you run the video to the HDTV with the HDMI cable to get the best picture. You can also use the HDMI cable to carry the sound to the TV if you use the TV speakers, or if your TV has an output to use with a surround unit. In my case, my surround system receiver is a little older and has no HDMI video hook ups, and my TV changes the sound a little in a way I don't really like so I ran the audio from the PS3 straight to the surround receiver and didn't use the HDMI to output the sound. The audio output is selectable in the PS3 menus so you can do it several ways.

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
The only difference between cheap and expensive HDMI cables is the shielding. Expensive cables use gold while cheaper ones use lesser metals. The thing is that HDMI is all digital so shielding really does nothing since it is not sending wave frequencies across that can be altered by other waves at different frequencies.
Yes, the Dual Shock 3 came out early this week. I just bought one yesterday and its really nice (although I didn't play a game with rumble, the added weight made it feel better. Also the triggers seem better on it).

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
The added weight is what I am really looking forward to on the Dual Shock 3. The rumble is really just a secondary feature to me.

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
I love the rumble feature, still have to get my dual shock 3! When I first played Resistance, I was taken back at the lack of force feedback. I hope many games, especially Resistance patch in the force feedback.

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
Does Resistance play out better then the demo? The demo was horrible and had a lot of issues. I repeatedly killed myself by peaking around a corner of a bus or wall and tried to shoot the enemy with some sort of grenade launcher, only to have it hit an invisible flank of the wall and explode in my face. I at first thought maybe the flash I was seeing at the end of the barrel was muzzle flash, but no, it was my bullets ricocheting off the invisible wall in front of me as I peaked around the corner. Odd that the enemy could hit me right through though.

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
Heh, gotta love buggy demos,
Thanks for the info and explanation though, think imma try and sell all of my 360 stuff and get the PS3 by the end of the month.
Anyone know what that one game is with some like nazi leaders creating clones takin over world? It was originally only for the PS2 (still think only is) but the war realism was intense as I've ever seen a game. It takes place in the far distant future still with bullets and grenades though, no star wars bs here..
Edit: Heard a sequel to it was comin out for PS3 anyone know when it comes out if they know the name of the game Im lookin for?Last edited by 206 Wolfpack; 04-11-2008 at 08:26 PM. Reason: Frogot to ask Question...

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
Ahh, I bet that's it. They did have a nazi-esque feel. That was one of the few "futuristic" shooters that I could get into and was a surprisingly good game. KZ2 looks to be shaping up nicely also:

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
So is anyone enamored with the fact of how good Killzone 2 looks? I know everyone gave the target video a lot of flak for being way too "good looking" but it seems that they've quite closely achieved that effect. If this runs smoothly at 60 fps with good controls, the single player could be crap and still be worth the multiplayer. Hopefully both will be good

Re: So. I got a PlayStation 3.
Yh, Killzone does look promising, and there was amazing footage that was released ages ago, but not sure about the Nazi thing...? The first Killzone seemed quite good, I actually only played the demo, which was pretty entertaining, but I think the new one will be way better. The initial trailer that came out all that time back was mind-blowing, but then the makers revealed that it was pre-rendered, which was disappointing. Still looks to be a good game though.
