AV, the best lesson I have ever been taught was:

The bombs should travel the same way your plane is, except lose altitude quickly. Imagine yourself as the bomb in the cockpit and decide when YOU as the PILOT would hit the target. Wait a second, at most, for bomb-brakes, then deploy. Fail-safe.

Well, I am still relatively new to understanding bombing, but I would say always make sure once you spot a target on the ground make sure you have a good path lined up on your descent. Curve around, make sure you ahve some altitude, then dive and drop as close to the ground above the target as you can. This ensures the closest and most effective blast radius. I would also say armor targets are what you should use your bombs on most. If not, only bomb areas with UAV where you know there will be lots of ground targets.

    Search is your friend.

Incase you did search and didn't find the answer you were looking for, then ask.

The best answer is still practice though.

make sure your reticle is on the target, come in high and slow but jam the afterburner all the way down to the target. if your aim is good you should be able to kill almost any target with machine gun, but if you fail then release the bombs a moment before you have to pull up

    Re: bombs awaYYYY

    Two important guidelines:
    1. If you're flying a bomber, let your WSO do his job. Your bombs should be secondary to the air-to-ground missiles.

    2. If you're flying a fighter, don't bother. Focus on the enemy air assets (enemy jets and helos).

To improve your aim with the bombs, practice switching to your rear camera view after dropping to see where they land. The HUD doesn't provide any help in dropping bombs, but you can get a pretty good feel for it after enough practice. With the bomber, it's hard to miss.

In a fighter your bombs are far less effective, and I recommend dropping them on a dive to minimise their spread. A single bomb is only going to kill a tank if it's already damaged or is a direct hit (or almost direct). Strafing your target before bombing will improve your odds of getting a kill and is extremely effective against clustered infantry and light vehicles. I get more kills strafing than I do bombing in the fighter.

Learn the maps. More experienced tank drivers know the maps and know what to do to keep themselves safe from the air. The right approach can significantly improve the effectiveness of a bombing run, particularly if you've got someone in the WSO seat.

Infantry can also help with a planes bombing/anti air. Spot tanks, apcs, vehicles, and your planes will have to search less for targets, and rather just bomb them. Its also a HUGE help to spot planes. Anytime im in a fighter and the enemies are flying bombers, i say in team chat "If youd like their bomber down, please spot it". When i was trying to take down a bomber in operation clean sweep ragged (i think it was him) kept spotting the bomber from the ground, and i was always able to either chase it for prolonged periods of time, or shoot it down. This wouldnt have happened nearly as much without that spotting.

Thats good advice always, but I especially pay attention to spotting if I see two jets dogfighting. I know that the few times I've been in the cockpit, having an enemy spotted is a HUGE help in manuevering to get them shot down.

Actaully AV I disagree - you have been superb at bombing me over the last couple of nights.

    Shame they were teamkills.

On Zatar I watched your jet approaching from about half a mile away, nice line and form by the way

I tend to dislike dive bombing and my normal flat range bombing seems to work pretty well.

APCs can be taken out with just the cannon. Use the bomb display to line up the square around the APC, with your crosshair. Fly steady and keep your crosshair on the square. 3-4 seconds of steady fire should do it.
