    Re: Shadow Squad Leaders

Yeah, the one thing I would love to do is play with more of the other SL's to try and learn more about different styles in order to improve myself. Of course that's almost impossible to do--->

See that Beatnik and Tarpan are leading squads
See that both squads are full
Decide to join another squad until a spot becomes vacant
    Fight for a bit
SL decides he doesn't really want to be SL, so asks me if I want to lead
I reply that I'd rather just fight as a squaddie for this one if they don't mind
    SL leaves squad and rejoins
New SL leaves squad and rejoins
--this continues until I am SL
Think, what the heck, and start a new squad
    Squad fills
    Fight for a bit
Notice that there is a spot in Beatnik's squad available
Quickly explain to the guys that I am going to join Beatnik's squad for a bit
Notice that Beatnik's squad no longer has a place available

++oh and apologies to Santa and anyone else playing in my squad Saturday night. I was flat from the AGB cancellation, and shoulda gone to bed rather than blunder my way around Clean Sweep and Oman.

I'm personally not a fan of having a SL and Sgt. I feel that either you are creating more than one voice to be heard, which is very difficult if they conflict, or the SL becomes a radio man, in which case he has to repeat everything said between the Sgt and the SL, which wastes time. I do see Beatnik's point however. I have been assassinated whilst leading squads (ie I get spotted and a vehicle speeds past everyone else in the squad to kill me!). I also get a *lot* of return fire if I'm not leading a squad.

Although I'd rather not have it any other way

I like the decoy idea tho, and if my SL wants to use me as a decoy for the enemy thinking I'm the real SL, then I'm all for it.

And we sooooo have to do a SL squad one day, just for the fun of it

I normally find myself in this position if I end up ground pounding with the rest of y'all. I'm too often a target to be a spawn point, +I'm pretty agressive with gunning and med packing. I'll often end up yelling out orders when the squad leader is hanging back a bit and I tell who to go up the stairs first etc.

The obvious tradeoff though is giving up direct communication with the CO and losing the ability to mark waypoints, and the extra communication required within the squad.
This is actually a bonus (if you have a good radioman). Keeps you communicating with the squad and prevents you from getting lazy. You have to explain what you mean and not just mark the objective and chaarge!

its hard to direct your troops based on speech only, your having to always say things like "hey we are gonna attack uhhh that flag, form up on me and flank to the east around the uuuh hut thingy over there"
