Re: Airborne Infantry unit?
Personally since BF1942's Desert Combat, I've done a lot of combat dropping. Now, until Desert Conflict comes out I wont be doing this much, but I like really small helos, such as the AH-6, for dropping people. Small, agile, hard to spot, and hey if it's unarmed, means people wont start spraying rounds everywhere and getting the attention of AT/AA/Jets. My preferred thing to do in DC was to pick up people, go really high, have them HALO out, then immediately return for more people. This gets more of the needed people from spawn to where they are needed. With BF2 I dont often get a chance to do this with the BH since people like to camp those miniguns, but I try to do the same thing, either dropping random people and going back for more, or allowing a squad to use me as a high altitude drop point. Wish I had something fast and agile though, BH is a might too slow for my tastes.
One of the best things about HALOing out of a chopper though is that you give the squadmembers discretion to go where they are needed, and the chances of them being annihilated upon spawn are much lower than spawning on the ground. Also, it throws confusion in for the enemy. As long as they're pulling low, it's hard to spot people just falling from the sky, so they run around wondering where people are coming from. By the time it takes them to realize that they're being dropped from the sky, either the flag is capped or we're long gone.

Numpad Minus here. Very easy key to find.

Re: Airborne Infantry unit?
Right-shift. I use the "Enter" key on the number pad for the map.

Re: Airborne Infantry unit?
I got tired of accidentally bringing up the squad screen in a firefight, so I de-mapped caps lock and now have it on backslash.

Re: Airborne Infantry unit?
On the keybinding matter:
I advise you all to go in the controls. con file, adn mannually change the button assigned to Weapon 9 (=the parachute) to the SAME button that yoou use to jump.
the lines in controls.con look like this for me, using numpad 0 for jump&chute:
jump: ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIAction IDFKeyboard IDKey_Numpad0 10000 0
chute: ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_Numpad0 10000 0
The main advantage to this is that when you jump off a roof, you can just keep spamming the jump button, thus minimizing the time needed to open the parachute.Last edited by BigGaayAl; 12-16-2005 at 03:55 PM.

Re: Airborne Infantry unit?
I'd like to remap my parachute key and bind it to my "use" key and I'd also like to remap my "prone" key so it's the same as my "crouch" key but I can't seem to figure out what I'm going to need to open the controls.com file.
What program am I going to need to DL in order to remap the keys you mention?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Airborne Infantry unit?
You can open the file in notepad. Make sure you save a backup. If you change something unintended Punkbuster will not like it.
