Re: What to do when attacking a strong defense?
A quick tactical hit here:
Don't let your SMs run in one at a time. Get them to spawn on your position and hold until all five guys are there, then send them in all at once. I hate to say it, but if the odds are grim, 5 noob tubes can clear out a lot of enemy troops. I also recommend the SL go medic and reposition himself after each wave, b/c they know your out there somewhere. Get those 5 dudes to the flag FAST b/c they can turn it in no time.
Also, request that UAV. Its the biggest help in clearing a position.
Personally, I hate Artillery. It has as much chance of killing the SL outright and ending the seige as it does of harming the enemy.
I also like CAS provided by an attack helo if available. They are very precise and can spot for you.Only the dead have seen the end of war.

If you have 3 tanks, you should get the flag regardless.

Re: What to do when attacking a strong defense?
Theres a lot of good points made, and there are a lot of ways to go about it. If you have bleed , engaging the flag from a strong firing position can be a good way to keep enemy squads tied up and get take some tickets away by killing. I generally wouldn't choose it unless I've already been spotted unless I know I have good sharpshooters and medics in the squad. It can also tie up enemy arty and UAV with a flag you won't take... not a bad trade strategically speaking.
If you recognize enemy assets (especially armour) at the flag that you know don't spawn there, there is another option. Destroy the asset if you have AT's. Even if you entire squad dies, when you come back that asset will not be there.
You could also kill assets you expect spawn there and have a guy lying in wait near where it spawns.
Here is another tactic I use that is very effective. Have you squad engage at a distance after the SL has moved to another spot. Lure the enemy out to them, and have the SL move in from the other side. Dead squad members will spawn on the SL and snatch the flag right out from under them.

Re: What to do when attacking a strong defense?
I do this all the time, sit in a tank far from enemy position and just shoot the hell of out it and eventually I hit stuff. With a sniper SL spotting for me by putting attack markers on targets it's just like precision artillery. Unfortunately it only works in a few maps, basically anything that doesn't have an attack chopper.

Yeah this tactic is great, especially on a few CPs on Zatar. Especially the Central flag. You can get a squad to chase your guys off the south side, while the SL climbs the North side and becomes a lovely spawn point for an open flag.
